Knocking on wood, haven't had this problem with mine. I think oldnavy's solution is about as good as you are going to get for now. They have much bigger TSBs to worry about. Like the Torque Converter, EGR, etc. etc. Maybe in another 10 years or so they will get around to fixing the dipstick

Don't worry about it, mines poped out once, use Duct tape as it works great. It always stumps the parts changers, and you say if you can fix it, then the tape can come off. But while they look at you thinking, their quietly saying but there's no code thrown, the tape must be working, hahahaha. I know it's hard to belive they still use dip sticks, that's so 70's! :P It's a sealed system, there's no need to check the level unless it leaks or maintenance (use laptop to check like modern vehicles), in that case get it fixed. You'll start to see less and less of this antique mind set, it's unfortunate the big 3 are so behind the times, did you see 2000 dodge employees to face the axe in Canada, hmmm....wonder why... man that compass is ugly :D

I don't think it's giving a bad reading, you could probably cut off an inch at a time until it stayed seated.
