Yeah - what has happened lately? I guess the wintry months and the holiday season shut us down. Now that it is warming out we should set something up. I would be up to Little Moab or Snakes. If we wanted to get together on a Saturday morning... What do you say Troy - set it up and I'm there.

you need to take your stock KJ out, just got back from moab last week and ran into a stock KJ on poison spider, he made it all the way though with no damage (with some spotting from the team).

I may come dunno, I've got some other trips planned this spring - of course I won't have my KJ but it's all in spirit :)

Any utah guy should look towards some of the local 4x4 clubs for regular runs.

www.utahoffroad.com

and of course, contribute to the utah 4-wheel drive association to keep our trails open and closed down ones reopen. http://www.u4wda.org/about_us.html

*edit* gordo, your truck looks great!

What do you think Troy? I still might like to come if I could find a place or someone to "share" a campground with.

I've got an RV site and a rented tent trailer. Last year I was alone the whole time, until AZ Dave needed a place to crash for the last night.

I hope my family will come down and spend a few days w/ me, but you're free to use one of the beds when they're not there, which will be most of the time.

Krazz1e has a great point--until we have enough activity support our own runs, we should support UOOC and attend their runs. They're always fun, and there's always someone who knows the trail really well.

I was kicking the idea of going. I just moved to Utah and I know this is a popular event. I don't know anyone in UT and I thought that this would be a cool way to meet others. I do have reservations about the trip however:

My KJ (which I've owned for 3 weeks) is bone stock. I know that there would be tons of modifications needed to participate. I am not even sure where to begin with this.

I never driven off road before and frankly, some of the pics and videos I've seen scare the crap out of me. I especially remember a pic of a KJ turning on a narrow path at high elevation with only inches between it and the allmighty.

Welcome. Don't be afraid to go just because you have a stock KJ.

Seriously...you of ALL people should go! I don't know exactly where in Utah you are, but you're a maximum of 6 hours away (if you live in Logan), and this is a great opportunity to start feeling comfortable driving your KJ offroad.

Plenty of people take their bone stock KJs to Moab. There are great trails for everyone.

I live in Draper. I just relocated from Ft Lauderdale, FL. Never even had to own a 4x4 before.

Cool, I'm in Draper, too. You can get to Moab in about 4 hours from here. Definitely worth the drive.

There are plenty of fun trails that are well-suited for a stock KJ around here, too, especially up American Fork Canyon, about 40 minutes south of here.

In any case, if you catch the bug like the rest of us have, you won't be stock for long...

Are you going to be at EJS? I'll be there the last few days (4/4-4/7). I'll be doing Golden Spike on Wednesday (non-sanctioned), taking a day off to go sightseeing with the family on Thursday, Kane Creek on Friday, and Steel Bender on Saturday.

EJS??? We are pulling out of here on the night of the 28th of March. This is the first time we have been there. Just been trying to find some info on stuff on the web. I figure we will camp at one of the BLM sites along the river. My wife's and my son's spring break don't jive so we have to get er done during that one weekend overlap, so we can get him back in school. Any suggestions for a novice with a stock CRD?

EJS is Easter Jeep Safari--are you not familiar with it? It starts on 3/31 and ends on 4/8. I hope you're not planning to be there during that time--finding a place to stay will be very difficult at this point. I was lucky to get the last available spot at KOA about a week ago. (I called a couple of the less expensive campgrounds and they were full.)

EJS is by far the busiest week in Moab. It's a lot of fun, but it's a madhouse.

Thanks for the heads up. May rethink this for that timeframe.

I guess the question if I would go or not is moot if there will be nowhere to stay once I got there.

Are you talking about LJS or EJS? EJS is a madhouse, and, yes, it's very difficult to find a place to stay at this point (although a lot of people just head down and search for a place to set up a tent until they find one--even if it's on top of the uranium pilings--yech).

If you're talking about LJS, you have nothing to worry about. There are still plenty of places to stay, including the campground where the rest of the LOST group stays (OK RV). I stayed in a tent a couple of years ago (something like $10/night) and had a great time. I've aged since then...so now I require a real bed.

Oh, If there are still tent spots left, I am all game - especially for $10 a night. I think I can pull that as long as you all don't mind my stink after two days with no shower :)

I'll need to take a look at schedules and whatnot, but I think I can probably swing a couple of days.

Gordo....Please take showers......they have them there at the campground (indoors). Mornings are mighty chilly though.

Yeah, the showers are just fine--hot water and everything.

If you call the campground within the next month or so you shouldn't have any trouble getting a tent campsite, but I'd call as soon as you can commit to it, just to be sure.

Sounds good. I just hate camping out and not having access to a shower. I guess you wont have to put up with my BO after all...I'll be sure to give them a call as soon as I can figure it out for sure if I can make it or not.

Now I am confused. We are talking about two different events? I've heard of EJS, but I don't know what LJS is. When and what is LJS? Excuse my ignorance.

No worries--you have to excuse us old-timers that have been living on this site for 3 years. 8)

EJS: Easter Jeep Safari. Sponsored by Red Rock 4-Wheelers (RR4W) during Easter Break. http://www.rr4w.com/safari.html

LJS: LOST Jeep Safari. Sponsored by LOST (mostly LOST West, but with help from LOST Rockies, LOST Arizona, and other regional clubs).
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=87

If you participate in EJS, you will be one of maybe 1/2 dozen KJs among thousands of Wranglers and Cherokees with 35"+ tires. It's a blast, but a bit intimidating.

If you participate in LJS, you will be one of a few dozen KJs with a few other 4x4s, all driven by really cool people who respect KJs and are there to have a good time. It's all but impossible to NOT have a great time.

yeah EJ safari is hosted by Red Rock 4 wheelers, which is a local club in moab. EJS is an important event because it generates lots of revenue to keep our trails open. RR4W uses all the proceeds it gets to improve, clean up and improve relation with the BLM to keep trails open, open existing trails and generally keep everyone happy.

If you got a stock KJ there is nothign better than the LJS because it's 99% KJ's. They know the limits, capability and will keep you safe or push it to the limit if you want :D

In that case, I can do LJS. The dates are easier as well. With that time frame, I am sure that I can get some mods done by then. Any advice on this subject would be welcome. I have an 06 CRD and based upon my research, it seems that FrankenLift is the best option for me.

I would start with skids and tow points even before a lift. You can still wheel without a lift but with skids and tow points, but a lift without those things will get you further into trouble. What kind of budget you have to work with would give a better idea what direction to go first. There are also dealers (one in particular comes to mind  ) that you can buy products for less rather than buying direct.
