They tell me the Liberty was not designed to run on ULSD. I should be useing #2 LSD ONLY with an aditive for winter driving.

Any one else been told this by there Dealer?

Nope. With the EGR failures, ULSD is exactly what should be used in the CRD. My tech claims it is a cure all for the EGR/exhuast issues. I do use PS with every tank for cleaning, and lubrication.

Same here, I only run USLD now. CRD smokes less and runs better. I do use PS in every tank too.

I use the white bottle for winter. It helps with gelling, but I'm not sure how good. It was +3 the other day and it fired and ran for less than a second 4 times before it finally caught hold. That was before the fuel filter change though.

I use the same, -26 here started and ran fine (I plug at night). And even sitting all day at work in the open never got above 0, wind chills to -45. fired right up, did run rough for a min or two.

I use ULSD and PS white bottle.

You really need to consider a differant dealer for service. If he is giving you this kind of bum info....no telling what he will come up with next.

Add a bit of gas for for increased performance?????

Your dealer is on UltraLowCrack!!! The big reason small diesel engines have not been prevavlent in the US was "because" of our high sulfur/soot diesel. The VM 2.8L was built for the Euro/Asia market where the diesel has been ULSD and a higher cetane rating for years.

This engine was designed in Italy where they have had ULSD for about 10 years now and nowhere in Europe can you buy diesel above 50PPM and below 50 cetane as far as I know except for large marine diesels. Heck you can go to Mexico and by better fuel from what I hear.

Take some sound advice and find a different dealer as the one telling you that crap is lost in the 70's and ain't got a clue to how a modern diesel or the fuel works.

Agree with the other sentiments - find another dealer that has a clue.

It states right in my '05 Owners Manual that you should use < 15 ppm sulfur diesel (ULSD) whenever possible.

If you want to have some fun, find the page in the owners manual that states this, go back to the dealer, shove the manual in this guy's face, and then ask him if he has any f#####g clue about the vehicles they sell. The look on his face should be priceless.

Wonder what they have been smoking???

Key issue with EGR and/or particulate trap equipped diesels is combustion soot which is minimized by burning ULSD. From a legal standpoint, no you aren't required to run ULSD in pre'07 diesels (other than the fuel formula is now mandated). From a mechanical standpoint you should use ULSD if your diesel has an EGR system as it will minimize the chances of soot related machanical issues.
