Hey no-blue-screen,
Did you ever try the Pela oil extractor in your CRD?

Image

I'm sure it would be slower, but I love the no mess factor.

On my CRD no, but I own one and used it on my Jetta TDI. I also use it on other vehicles in the family. I still miss my TDI...but accidents happen. I mainly got my CRD because of the new addition my wife and I were expecting. She arrived on 12-22-06....just in time for a break from the tax man 8)

Congrats Blue,
The high maintenance cost of the new arrival will certainly outweigh the CRD maintenance. But worth it.

I'll give the pela a try on the next oil change.

Just checked into the hotel. 429 miles today with average 26.7 mpg and yes, I love the crd.
I did notice a shudder on several occasions when decelerating at 55-60 mph, but I would accelerate and it would go away. Not a great surprise. The gas gauge took forever to move from Full...I was afraid it was broken.

As far as OEM tires...I will speak with experience and authority...THEY SUCK, if they put the Goodyears that I had on my other 2 liberty's. Luckily, these have already been replaced. 8)

You mean...."Diesel" guage. 8)

I'm VERY surprised you elite CRD owners didn't pick that up....if I had said that in my friends cummins he would have thrown me out!!!

Oh I'm that way too. This is my first diesel, and I am constantly questioning my useage of the the terms. I usually mispell diesel. What ever happened to the I before an E except after C rule anyway? :D

I try to do most the maintenance on my cars. The audi was such a pain to get to for oil changes that I used a vacuum pump to siphon the oil out through the dip stick tube. Actually, I was very pleased with the results. Anybody discussed that here? I'll keep checking the forums for that issue. I used Mobile1 0-40 in the audi, so at least my left over oil wont go to waste.

I used to do the topside oil change with my TDI. Worked great! I think you'll find changing the oil in your Liberty ain't no big deal. I'd recommend getting a Fumoto to replace the OEM oil drain plug. 8)

heh, my 71 year old mother always says...he has to get gas....and I say...nooooo...I have to get fuel. I prefer to use the term fuel...that applies across the board no matter if you use petrol or diesel.

You're the guy with the story about your extremely high mileage Liberty from JeepsUnlimited?

Elite? Well that definitely wouldn't be me. I don't think I'm better than anybody just because of an engine option. ;)

I certainly don't consider myself "elite" either. I just like to stir up trouble with the oldtimers like oldnavy and company :P

LOL Jeepster,
I thought about photoshopping a mustache on my girls to keep you away. The blue jeep belongs to my oldest daughter, and we made 1 year of payments and the rest is on her. She has 42000 miles on it.

Just checked the parking lot all had little fuel pumps on them and only mine said Diesel Fuel on it. Maybe it is a military thing but I always use the word fuel.

Welcome! Unless you have a monster beer gut, getting under the Libby for an oil change is a breeze. Mine is even breezier with my lift. Oil filter is right in your face too.
KJBob, are you running a lift with those tires? I assume not, or it would have made your signature. Just wondering how high I can go with my lift---looking at 265's in Goodyear Silent Armor. Widow, what tires are on your '05? I assume they're stock size but just curious...

Joe

Crud is right about the oil change being pretty easy. My rhino ramps don't see much action these days. My 06 Jetta was a PITA because I had to put it on rhino ramps, remove the numerous Torx bolts that hold the plastic skid on, etc. That is why a lot of the guys used the pela on the TDI...also the oil filter on the TDI is right under the hood and up front so very easy to do top side oil changes. I still did them bottom side though becuase I always questioned if the pela got all the oil out. I think the concensus on Fred's was that you could get an extra few ounces of oil out by doing a bottom side change. My wife's uplander sits up pretty high as well so I can do a OC on that without too much of a problem.

Nope. Stock suspension and there's no rubbing, grinding, squeaking, smoking...nothing!
