I see the Compass and Patriot are available with a built-in genuine Jeep rechargable/ removable flashlight. I'm pretty sure this is something I 'need' to retrofit to my KJ. You can view it on the Jeep site under interior conveniences. Of course, my maglite would probably get jealous.

That light is just two little LED's and then a regular dome light on the bottom. It mounts in the cargo area (like the cargo light on the Liberty) so it could possibly be a direct swap. However, I have played with the light and it's not very bright and hard to re-install into its cradle.

Thanks - I've got to get down to the Jeep dealer and play with one. I've also got to find a wiring diagram too. I'm assuming it has to have a three wire connection - dome on, constant on for charging, and ground. But that's just an assumption.

Didn't know there was a rechargable one. I'll have to look for it now that you've given me an excuse to go shopping..

The electrical connector or the flashlight version is tiny, not interchangeable with the one on our Lib's, also there is a clip on the top that snaps into a cleat welded to the sheet metal above the headlining

If you want a good Jeep light, go with a rechargeable mag lite. I have one with a glass lens and a halogen bulb and it is great! A little expensive, but the beam is very bright, it can light up the tops of the Redwood Tress around my house, which are a good 200' away.
