The sensor that controls the speed-o is on the rear diff. Since the ABS uses the same sensor to tell if a wheel is slipping, then yes, it could cause it to come on.

Many times the wire coming off the sensor on the rear diff will rub on something and cause a short.

OH by the way there is 2 speed sensors on your tranny(45RFE),one input speed and one output speed,inadition to the one on the rear diff.

I had the same problem on my last '04 Sport KJ, the first time the dealer took almost 3 days to define the problem, gee, too much!!!
Now I have the same proble on my '05 LTD KJ, fortunately I know the problem and I tell them, next Saturday they are going to change free of charge

I think this is a common issue

Yellocoyote's hubby here. I spent the day crawling under the Jeep, replaced the wheel speed sensor in the rear diff and the vehicle speed sensor on the tranny. No longer have an engine code, but the ABS and Brake lights are still on and the speedo is still goofy. I inspected the wires coming off the wheel speed sensor and found no signs of wear. However, twice today everything works just fine for about 5 miles.

Do you know where others have had the rubbing problem so I can check a specific area?

Might want to check the pins/wires in the connector,may have some corrosion/dirt thus not making good contact with the sensor.
