I turned my stereo up to my normal listening level and got outside the KJ yesterday to find out how much noise I really make driving around. There are no interior rattles or squeaks that I can hear. I have some buzz coming from the rear glass but from what Ive read thats fairly normal with having subs in the back. Do our jeeps have some sort of pressure relief valve in the back area? On either side of the jeep, towards the bottom of the rear quarter panel between the wheel well and bumper, theres a strange popping/flappy sound. It doesnt sound like any other subwoofer-induced car noise I've ever heard before. Whats causing this, and how could I quiet it down? I havent had my subs in for very long and my jeep is new so I doubt I've rattled something loose already.

There is 2 one-way vents under the rear bumber(1 each side).They have rubber flaps on them to limit dust entering the cabin,that's probally the noise you are hearing.Try rolling the windows down a little bit,this may help with that noise.

ah, thanks. would I be adversely affecting anything if I secured them to not open at all?

Yep,when you slam your door shut that extra air gets vented out those,when using the heater/AC they also vent the overload of air,and the air moved by your subs exits there to.Blocking those you have the possibility of over pressureizing the cabin and blowing out a side window or windshield(trust me I've seen it happen).The air's gotta go somewhere and those vents are there for that.

Do you think they would seal out water fairly well, or would that be something else to close up for a submarine trip.

I think you'd be okay,the rubber flaps would get pressed back against the vents not allowing water to get past,unless the where glogged with dirt/mud.Also it would have a ways to travel,the other end of those vents is just above the floor area in the rear cargo area(open rear swing gate and you will see vents in the plastic trim).
