For everyone still freezing throughout the LOST world, here's a little warmth. I just returned from a trip south of the border to the Sea of California. It's only a four hour drive from Phoenix to a little place known as Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco). Enjoy. Spring is almost here!

At Tucson Beach, La Choya. Yeah, that's a Nemo kite - are you jealous?

Image
Full load of stuff after the beach.

Image
From the fish market, Puerto Penasco. Looking across to La Choya.

Image
...I once caught a shrimp T H I S B I G !

Image
Temporarily mired during a sandrail recovery. Thrashed the Jeeplet getting out of these dunes, though. Had to power over some whoop-ti-doo's to build up enough momentum to climb out of this little valley. My poor front end! SOOO FUN, however. Only wish we were smart enough to video it.

Total vehicles rescued: 2 (aforementioned sandrail and one Montana mini-van with it's parking brake left on accidently :x )

Total vehicles jump-started: 1

Total intake of carnitas and fresh grilled shrimp: 1 ton (approximately)

Total intake of tequila: 2 bottles of Patron.

The KJ is looking real good. Where did you get the reverse light, I must have one! and what kind of roof rack is that?

Did you need a passport to travel there now? I once had a salesmans' sample of the "juice" down there. It was about a thimble full, and I swear it was laced with opium. :) I bought 2 jugs and I think they pulled a bait and switch on me.

No passport needed to drive or walk across the boarder until the 1st of the year. '08.

Let's see if I can handle all of the above in a single reply:

1. Sport - it's an IPF back-up light. Rocky Road Outfitters carries them. The rack is a set of Thule cross rails, with a Yakima basketcase mounted flush.

2. BVCRD - we brought passports but didn't need them. On coming back across the border we just needed ID's. Next year its a different story.

3. Blue Freedom - Yup, ate carne asada taco's, drank Pacifico's and shots of Jimador all at JJ's. Also at Manny's. Come to think of it, we did that everywhere we went.

Yes, for flying in, or on a cruse ship.

Wendell - no stow aways. However, as I'm sitting here at work, I wish someone would smuggle me back across the border. Stupid job. :D

Deviousz - See the previous reply for the rack info. The hitch tray is a Draw-Tite. It's my friend's (who had it down there already at his house), and we had to turn it upside down to mount it because of the spare. I have one that I didn't bring that's all super heavy plastic that has a much lower profile. They are handy.

My friend had his wallet stolen by a kid and then 10 guys jumped him while chasing down the kid....came back with a broken foot from a boot stomping his bare foot

As for pix of bikini clad ladies... Well it was Spring Break...

Let me explain this trip. This was a high school reunion of sorts - 24 years ago, a group of 6 of us made our first trip down to Rocky Point. We were all 16 years old then. (Do the math...)

Back then there was a total of 3 bars and just a bunch of punk kids learning the merits of the agave nectar. Skip ahead, and there are 100 bars, hotels, condos, etc. and thousands of high school and college kids running around, all trying to learn the merits of the agave nectar. Now you throw in a group middle-aged, hairy, fat, white people who are trying to remember the merits of the agave nectar, and it's mayhem.

So sorry, no pictures of bikini clad ladies in our group. The cameras were blinded by the glare off our pale skin, and the lens could not encompass the girths of our waistlines. Plus we'd have to explain a lot to our wives and fiances exactly WHY we had so many pictures of bikini clad teenagers.

HA!

Did you find the bottle of Dom that you buried 24 years ago? Wait, that was a movie, not real life. :D
