So I went ahead and picked up some air hours the other day when I was at pep boys. Cheap and I have been wanting them for a bit now. And Man are these things LOUD!!!! I got the two trumpet set up with the little mini compressor, they are about an 8" trumpet and 10" trumpet. I wired them in place of my stock horn. I just cut the wires leading to the stock horn and ran new wires to the compressor for the trumpets and wallaa.
I mounted them and the front side/ top of the wheel well under the passenger side. You can't even see them with everything put back together! But you can definitely hear em!

With the grill back on you can't even see them.

Freight train comin at ya!!! haha

It really isn't a pain at all to take the front bumper off. Plus I wanted them hidden. 4 bolts and a couple push pins. Then the plastice brace setup under the grill is about 5 bolts and the head light was two. Only took about an hour by myself. The long bolt your seein is the front of the M bolt for my tow hooks.

P.S I scared the shyt outta my wife when she came home!!!

What do they sound like? Do they have a good low pitch like a train horn? Or do they sound like the dukes or hazard?

It's actually prety high pitched.

You can hear them here http://www.wolo-mfg.com/air.htm

Mine is the model 400 airmite 2

Trust me though it sounds a lot better in real life.

Wow, that looks just like the ones I picked up at Harbor Freight for just at $20. Are they that much louder than the stock horns? I know they're higher-pitched, just wondering how much louder they seem. I may have some more questions this weekend when I go to install mine :D

I don't know if I'm going to bury them that deep though...

I Ordered i think that exact set, from JC Whitney, and immediatly packed it up and sent it back, i was going for a low, barge-like sound.

then i ordered another set only to have them be about an inch longer and chrome. well I didnt bother using them.
I still have them sitting around if someone wants them, direct-drive compressor and everything.

SO FINALLY I started asking around at the marina i work at, and a friend of mine had some off of his '74 Hatteras, and sold them to me from 20 bucks, only problem was with the compressor, it was old and locked up, so I threw that away. And these things are awesome, 22in. long. Bought a wolo air system with tank and everything for under 200, and now i have some extremely loud and deep sounding air horns.

Wow never thought of going "off shore" to find some deep sounding horns. Been trying to get some off my friends Dad, hes got a set of 6 volt off an old truck, its a 3 horn system, thats VERY loud when hooked up 12 volt, so far he says I going to use them someday!

I love my air horns! That was the first mod to the Jeep, and they are mounted to the frame right behind the grill, I will try to get some pics up when I can. I like how hidden those lights are behind the light, and will probably do something similar when I get my barge like horns cause I want a deeper sound!

Longer=deeper. also trumpet diameter. but the good thing about Marine Air Horns is that they are 100% stainless steel. I'll take some pictures tomorrow to show how them under the hood, horns, air compressor, mounting ect.

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=183733 Here's a simple alternative and probably a less involved install. I think these bolt right into the stock horn position

1. A big semi air-horn: Get snow birds out of the fast lane.

2. An "ooga" horn: Make gals in skirts jump.

3. One that sings Dixie: To p1ss off people in Scottsdale.

Aren't these illegal in some states? Causing you to fail state inspection? I wanted to get them, I think strauss and pepboys here have them, or very similar ones.

THe problem with some of these they need some time to recharge before you can blow again, how is yours?

Keep the tubing short and the connections solid and the recharge time is very little. I can keep blowing mine for a long time.

stephen

Also, if these horns would cause you to fail inspection, then just wire in a relay and a switch so you can switch between the stock horns and the air horns. That will keep the state happy.

stephen

believe me nothing will keep state happy
you just need a friendly mechanic! that's all ;)

as for the sound, I thought this had a higher tone, I just checked the sound clip on their site, I would prefer a lower tone.
