Am I late to the party...or is this a new pic of the Jeep Patriot?? All I can think of is Mini Liberty when I see this picture.

Not as tinny as most people think. It is more of a midsize SUV than a compact SUV. Just take a look at the dimensions, or park it next to another vehicle such as a XJ or such. It is definitely larger.

It is just the styling that makes it look small. Kind of like the new Durango which is huge, but the styling makes it look smaller than it really is.

Don't make me post thoe length, height, width, and especially the weight differences of the Liberty over the Cherokee.

Liberty is longer, wider, taller, and almost 1,000 lbs heavier than the old Cherokee.

No putting down the Cherokke, just want you to understand that the KJ is not small. Trick dimensional view makes it look small.

Park next to a Grand Cherokee and look from the front. The KJ looks so much bigger, but the GC is bigger. Same dimensional trick view. I parked next to my friends Grand and he was shocked.

I didn't mean to offend anyone I was just comparing it to my old explorer sport ( 2 door sport so it was the shortest explorer available when we owned it ) which took up another 6 - 10 inches of garage space.

A jeep dealer here in town has a Libby, a Grand, and a Commander all parked side by side, in the same color, and the KJ and Commanders have the chrome grill inserts. Seeing them side-by-side really shows the true (large) size of the KJ.

The KJ is taller than the grand, but the grand is longer. If the numbers say otherwise, it's because they are including the spare tire in the KJ length, which is why the KJ looks so short. That's also why the patriot looks longer - the tire isn't there, so the body is longer, but overall length is shorter/the same.

This whole issue of size is very interesting as one of the reasons I bought the Liberty over the Cherokee was I thought the Liberty was smaller. I never even looked at the Cherokee as a viable option. When I set my mind on buying a Jeep (wanted one for YEARS) it was between the TJ and the Liberty, as I didn’t want to get into the “bigger” Cherokee. I read sites like this one, and I decided that the Liberty covered my needs the best. It worked well to move my family around, and was capable of efficiently moving around/through the backcountry.

looking at the picture that begins this discussion....my first impression was the "new" liberty model....considering the similar theme name "patriot" and the fact that it's been stated that the liberty would be discontinued soon...I don't have any inside information, just what I read here and in magazines, etc...

I always figured the liberty was a bridge vehicle to take jeep into the independent front suspension market....they dropped the cherokee to sort of force the public to take the step?...now they will drop the liberty to force a move again....most of the "new car buying" public won't split hairs over the difference in the patriot and the liberty of the past few years...and the straight axle old guard jeep crowd never accepted the liberty anyway...

what do I know though?...I really like my liberty and have fun messing around with the kj culture...I was hoping the model would last a few years so the aftermarket industry would get on board....

Can you stop by and take a picture? I would like to see those 3 side-by-side like that.
