You are right, $200 is a lot of money, I could get 5 tire replacement instead of 4 for that difference. But if there is really a difference, then it seems reasonable.
I don't know about the good name of GY, but possibility of handling of recalls, other customer service, etc.. might be another cause of the price difference.
Cooper only has three type of tires for 17" size. Discoverer ATR, H/T, M+S. It also has sports tire, which I am not interested in.

Neither TireRack nor 1010 has coopers.. I found them here to be the cheapest $113 each, but WHITE lettering, come on!
https://www.tiresavings.com/tireShop.ph ... TR&season=
shipping is generally $60 to my area.

And here for $98 a pop.

Are they that good?

Hey what's wrong with white lettering, that's what I have (by choice)!!!!

As far as offroad, a few guys from here have said they are good but I dont do anything hardcore enough to comment. On road, snow, ice and light offroading, yes I think they are very good but then again each his own. I'm sure like any tire, you will find people that hate them (or the brand) as well.

Finding reviews were tough for me too, I did a bunch of random searches using different combinations and didnt find a whole lot but what I did find was good and nothing bad. I asked a few people that I know who use them and checked here as well. I also went to a few tire places that carried them and asked their opinions on the ATR's verse and more expensive tire that I knew was good. Probably not the best way to judge but I wanted to see if they would be honest with their opinion or suggest the other brand just based on the higher sale price. lol

Got any pix of your rig with the ATRs? I don't do off-road either, so highway, wet and snow in winter is important, but I would like to rely on my tire just in case I have to hop a few rocks here and there or drive through unpaved road..

I dont have any right now (at work and shouldnt be surfing) but I might be able to put one up tonight.

I dont do a whole lot of offroading, fireroads, camping/fishing (back woods stuff) and playing in the snow/mud but no crawling or actual trails.

Let me see if I can get a pic tonight and post it, if not I will try tomorrow.

OK, Thanks a lot.

About the white lettering, I got all black, so I didn't think I wanted go with white lettering, is it white both inside and out? or is it white/black combined like some of the others?

Also, I have read some of your other posts, and saw that you were in the same boat as me, looking over at Pirelli Scorpions, Forteras and triple treads.. :) and finally went with these, possibly because of the price. I don't mind paying a bit extra but it should be well worth it, on the other hand if these are as good as you are saying, they could be a good replacement over my Wrangler HPs.

Thanks.

PS: shouldn't this topic be under tyres category?

They really are that good.If you lived closer to me I would almost buy them from you if you honestly did'nt like em!They can be reversed mounted like I did mine.I don't like white letters either. You can go to "Post Pics Of Your Rig Right Here"
and check out "Pics of LiLredLibby"and see what they look like.If you need close up shots I'll post you some.Like yourself,I don't need agressive tread on a daily basis, but these are as close as you can get without all the noise and a rumbling ride.I think the silent armors are a good tire, but they are pricey, and will sing you to sleep.I work at a tire and service center,so I was able to try GY,BFG,and a few others without conseqenses.Price was'nt my goal,I don't mind paying for good tires,I just was'nt going to pay good money for just one feature or the other. You'll never know you like them if you don't try them.I did,and I do.

Thanks Ron,
I just took a look at your tires, and they look good. You can see from that front/side shot where the treads show, that they mean business. :) Otherwise the other shots are hard to tell since they were on snow. If you have any, I wouldn't mind looking at a few shots up front and from side on pavement.

As for my choices, my narrow list is down to 5 choices (or should i say UP to 5 choices with addition of coopers)

Goodyear Fortera Silent Armor (235) $138 -- H RATED
Pirelli Scorpion ATR (235) $159 -- H RATED
Cooper Discoverer ATR (235) $100-$110 -- T RATED
Goodyear Fortera Triple Tread (235) $148 -- H RATED
Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor (245) $141 -- T RATED

And on another topic Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S G052 came up, as being pretty good tires at nice price. Thanks to jeepjeepster. :P

Goodyear MTR's are pretty good if you rotate them religiuosly every 3k. If not they start to feather.

I've worn a hell of a lot of rubber down over the years and I have to say the BRIDGESTONE DUELLER H/L ALENZA's (235/70/16) I recently bought are the best tires I've used. Although, I'm still partial to BFG tires they wear like iron and are tough as hell.

remember, there is no 235 on those. Are you going to take the chance on 245s? I am still hesitant..

Yeah, the 245's....comparing their height on the chart for the 16", they should fit wit no rubbing, plus have seen other people run the 245.

I have heard good things about the Wrangler SilentArmors, i havent bought them, but i know some people who have. The reasons i choose the Forteras are 1) the guy at Discount talked me into them, and 2) He gave me 200$ off. Im fairly sure that both these tires are good, depends on what you want. Sure that anything you get will be better then OEM.

All the reviews I've read for them have been good it seems, both for capability and wear. I have the 17" wheels, and the stock size is very limited for choice, but I think I may upgrade to a 245/65/17 to get the Wrangler Silent Armors, but the $140+ price per tire has me thinking twice. I know there are other descent tires for cheaper, but their ratings and reviews seem to be great. I hope they're worth the price.

I can't speak for long-term wear, as mine only have about 400 miles or so on them but, I can tell you they perform really well on wet pavement, in snow, light mud, and on rocks. Better than I had expected, really. I have yet to hydroplane in them, and I've tried a little. I don't have a lot of experience with other off-road tires so I really can't say if they're worth the extra price. I'm not complaining, though. Oh, and they really are quiet on the highway.
