I was at a Dodge dealer, yesterday, working on a printer issue in their parts dept. While there, I was grumbling about the fact that It's looking like it will be late May or June, before my ball joints get replaced. The parts mgr. stared at me in amazement. "We HAVE LBJs in stock"! I replied, "My dealer told me they are only getting 3 sets per week, I've been on the list for 6 weeks, and from the list, it looks like it will be another 2 months, or so, before I can get mine done"!

This dealer doesn't sell Jeeps, specifically. Anyway, since they don't sell Jeeps, they don't have as many people coming in for the LBJ recall work, and have plenty in stock.

Sooo.............if you want your LBJs done sooner, find a Dodge dealer in the area who DOESN'T sell Jeeps, and see if they can do it for you. (It's STILL Chrysler)

I went into the Jeep dealership here for some other stuff and they asked me if I want my LBJ replaced right then; that it would only take an additional hour. I never even got my recall notice.

I think this backorder stuff is a lie. Perhaps it is more because they don't want to do the balljoints and hope you will go somewhere else (guess they don't pay the dealer very much to do them). I was told that the ball joints were out of stock by a dealer's service writer over the phone. He said I could not get ball joints for months-- I took my Jeep in to the dealer for the tranny on the very same day-- figuring I would at least have them look at my tranny.

They could not fix the tranny (right before F37-- so they "could not duplicate"). Instead they asked me if I wanted to get the ball joints done while I was there. I asked them if they had "found" some. The service writer said they had plenty, it was not a problem. So in three hours it went from "can't get them for months" to "sure, plenty of them laying around". I don't think the stories about the ball joint shortages are true at this point.

Thst is awesome that the dodge dealer would do that for you.
I must admit that I am a little confused. My '06 has a May '06 manufactured date, and it has the lbj's with the blue line. Did I miss a post? Will this be a recall as well? I typed my vin # at the sight and it responded "No recalls as of this date" or something like that. But I see that some member's '06's are getting it done. What's up?

If I'm not mistaken, I think the recall applies to those '06s with a build date before your's. I'll have to do some research but I think the cut-off was something like April 1st, 2006.

Did the research and found that the recall applies to KJs with a manufacture date prior to March '06
