I have recently bought a loverly little trailer to camp in this season, and would like to have a bit more oomph for the Rocky Mountain travelling I do.

Who has what performance chip, and how do you like it?

I have the EDGE Products EZ module.. I like the way my Jeep drives when I'm using it, there is a noticable difference from stock. I haven't towed anything though.. not yet :P

I have a SP Diesel Module. I got it to aid in towing my 6'x12' enclosed trailer. It makes a big difference in power and fuel economy. When loaded my tailer weighs around 3600 lbs. For driving around on flat highways I run the module on "3", driving aroundd 75 mph I still am getting 19.5 mpg. If I travel on back roads or on large hills I bump it up to "HO" (High Output) and the the milage drops but I have never been below 16.9 mpg. That is checking milage manually. My Dodge Dakota would only manage 7 mpg towing the same trailer loaded, and it would only "crawl" up the hills.

With the Module, My CRD never drops out of 5 gear and doesn't slow below 70 mph on any hills around here. :D So far I have been very happy with this module.

The above gas mileage is before I unplugged my MAF. I will be heading to the races again this weekend with the MAF unplugged so I will get some comparison numbers.

when you guys run the chip and tow, do you notice the engine temp increasing slightly?

My temp has never gone above 1/2 way on the gauge, so far. I was more worried about the Tranny temp but so far I haven't had any issues.

The exhaust gas temps. (EGT's) and the tranny temps. are what you need to be worried about. If you're going to be towing with a chipped diesel, gauges are a must. I believe gauges should be the first thing installed and then a chip. The EGT's rise very quick and without gauges you have no idea what they reach until it's too late.

Its a stripped down SP module, a waste of money. If you get a chip, get the SP.

I'm just wondering if the mileage claims are true

I have the scorpion chip with 4 levels including stock. On level 1 I average 26mpg but I only have 7200miles so it is only gonna get better. On level 3 I can lay down a 20' patch of rubber

I have a Predator chip. I currently do not use it. It feels like you doubled the engine size when you run it. It smokes coal black like a locomotive at full throttle. If driven normal it doesn't reduce mpg. That said, it is hard to drive normal with it installed. It seems like the power is either on all the way or off. Very hard to find a happy medium. It also causes my crd to shudder very bad between 50-60mph when I'm trying to drive nice. It is nice for towing though. I pulled a two place enclosed sled trailer fully loaded with extra beer and got 20 mpg this February. Same exact trailer and load with my 2000 1500 Chevy two years ago netted me 12 mpg!! I use mine strictly for towing.
