Off Road or one of the like mags just finished their CRD long term testing,
they pretty much said they loved the rig. They said the same about the gasser before it.

Ok thats a great marketing slogan
but I still think it is simply a badge stuck on the side of jeeps
I read lines like this

"So, the next time you see a Jeep with a Trail-Rated badge, don't worry it'll have no problem taking you to the ends of the earth, and back again."
The last line in the artical
I can not help but smile at a minimum
Why?

well they stick trail rated badges on 2wd jeeps and they get stuck on wet gras
Just my .02 again

Do they have trail rated badges on 2x4s. I thought only 4x4. I really hope Jeep sticks to their roots. I'm very sceptical as they keep increasing their product line. The compass seems to be a queer "i have 4 wheel drive incase it rains too hard" vehicle. Sometimes i think they are building the vehicles towards yuppy soccer moms that feel the need to have 4 wheel drive just incase of the horror of un-even pavement. If jeep comes out with some crappy vehicle like that little Baja that came out a couple years ago I may puke on myself.

my .02 cents (which is really only worth .01)

OH yeah they have them on 2wd's
I live in south LA and much like FL no snow so folks dont buy 4wd I dont know why?
I have seen several on the lot 2wd and "trail rated"
Infact the local lot closest to me has on more than one ocasion had 0 yes no 4wd jeeps on the lot other than TJ's and now with the JK it is more or rather less 4wd's

Back when we bought our KJ we got it cheeper than a 2wd because it had been sitting for 2 month's no one wanted to buy an '03 4wd when they could get an '04 for "around the same" so we said that we wanted a 2wd ,lies  , got the price then asked for an '03 cause we did not like something ,can not remember what, about the '04 all they had were 2 '03's one bare bones sport and one top-o-de line limited 4wd so we got that for the same price as a comparable '04 2wd

maybe it was the trail rated bage?

Trail Rated still means that there is a 4LO...

A Jeep must have 4low to get the TR badge. The grands that have the All Time 4wd DO NOT get it.

so the jeeps I see all day long with NO front diff and trail rated badges on them have 4lo?

I work all day out on the road some times 300+ miles in a day so I see ubber amounts of cars & trucks

I have also been on the lot looking one day and saw a few that had skids "trail rated" heck they were even renigades but no front diff
maybe I am just crazy

Just like all the 2wd JK's this is simply a marketing ploy to get folks to buy a product it means NOTHING

It is like the "Z71 offroad" 2wd colorado thing that the 2 teens were drooling over when I was picking up something at a chevy dealer
That too is to sell cars nothing more
If you put fancy stickers and badges on it people will buy it

Why dont they offer the lockers and 4 to 1 T-case as an option on every new wrangler?
because 1/2 the people who buy a rubicon would buy a sprot or somting else and not bother with that stuff but put a fancy sticker and build up hype
and presto its the "in thing to have" just like the 4 door JK "in thing"
just like the FJ "in thing" all the fancy junk and still 2wd ,I see them on the lot

What about the Toyota Taco preruner with the TRD package
that is a 2wd with an "off-road package"
same thing marketing ,selling people something cause they dont realy know what they are buying
and once they have it if they find out that it is simply stickers and that stuff its there problem
The car mfg's could care less if you spend more and get less that is your problem

people like stickers and badging...the more the better. I may buy a geo metro and put a TRD, SS, TypeR, and corvette badges on it. Maybe even a big ole #8 on it as well. That would be hard f***in core! hahaha

A very nice write up. It’s good to hear that those involved in the Jeep’s future and production are listening to Jeep Enthusiast who actually take them off road and to the Jamborees. It also encouraging to hear that they understand that there is a level of expectation to measure off-road capability to ensure that a Jeep is “Badge Worthy.” I’m probably a minority on this forum who thinks that Jeep CDX has done a good job in the past few years taking Jeeps to a new level without compromising quality. I think our Liberty’s were designed very well. And I think the Commander was a nice choice, the new Wrangler is very impressive, and Grand Cherokees keep pushing forward. The auto market is much tougher, the financial burden had taken it’s toll, so I think CDX has successfully continued to produce quality Jeeps in an uncertain economy.

it was a nice write up, but some of it is bs..

as far as water fording goes, i went through a couple feet of water and had to send the kj to the dealer to replace the entire fan motor assembly because the water shorted out the fan relay.

how is that trail rated...

its happened to more than just me...

i still love the kj though!!

Either we were all lucky in Moab crossing Kane creek or the creek was not as deep as the one you crossed ... dunno. Seemed pretty darn deep to me ...

They can call it trail rated all they want, but my CRD wasn't taco bell rated before I lifted it. Could not go over a curb without hitting the subframe when I decided to bail out of the drive-through one day.
