Even the Mechanics HATE your CRD!

By now were all pretty much aware that the suits and bean counters at DCX are going to turn a blind eye to the step child CRD's. But this quote really drove home that fact for me. It was in a discussion on another forum about our CRD's EGR issues. This person is obviously a wrench turner for a dealership somewhere.

The ironic part is that this same dumb booty mechanic will be shocked when he is no longer employed because his employer has gone out of business. Hopefully, there will be a few who take the opposite approach and try to get all the CRD business for miles around by building a reputation based on knowledge and skill. Probably too much to hope for in today's world. You don't see posts like that on this forum - we'd eat him alive.

I don't know if the mechanic you quoted has got it quite right. Statistically speaking, he will probably see the CRD more often than other vehicles in the DCX line up :roll:

-- at least for the TC, ball joints, and EGR/FCV. And just think of all the money that will be made once the warranty runs out. He will want to put a shingle out stating his specialization in CRDs. I think that this one might fall under the "plumber concept" which states that "it smells like money."

While the above is a bit of "tongue in cheek," I really think that if DCX bellys up to reasonable design fixes on the TC, EGR, etc., we would have a good vehicle for the long haul. However, right now they are not even sitting down to discuss the issue.

Not true. Techs could give a rats ars what pulls through the door. Just another set of nuts and bolts to them. Nice try.

I cant speak for all the techs in the world, but I know of a few that would cringe at the sight of certain vehicles pulling in. Especially if they have seen it 5 times for the same problem already. It gets old after awhile.

personally, I love when something comes my way that is a challenge ... I'd hope my mechanic feels he same way ... otherwise he should stick to oil changes. (or maybe just checking tire pressure)

Personally did not think the CRD was very difficult to understand or maintain (and I didn't have any techie tools). Was just doing too much tinkering, too often, and warranty concerns were getting ignored by DCX until threaten by suit. Several of my concerns were ignored right up until the day they issued a recall/TSB on the subject. I think the mechanic's issue is not so much the vehicle but having to deal with the owner that paid a lot of money for this maintenance queen. Dispite the problems, made it a point to save my outrage over this vehicle for DCX and not vent this on the dealership personnel. Just a suggestion: If you have good CRD a mechanic, take the time to send the owner/manager of the dealership a note/e-mail to let them know. It goes a long way.

Nah, didn't mean to come across like that! I know I really do like ours despite it's problems/shortcomings. I, among others here, and probably even yourself realize the potential of this thing once most of the bigger problems are worked out of it.

All I really meant was that the 'suits' at DC don't really seem to care about GENUINELY fixing at least a couple of flaws inherent with the CRD's (Torque converters, and EGR systems) And as we all know, the "Stuff" rolls downhill. So if the suits don't care, why should some wrench turner at a dealership really care.

This guys response just really drove it home for me as far as having ANY dealer do (almost) ANY kind of work to my vehicle. I am perfectly capable of doing my own maintainence work, and major upgrades (ie: changing torque converters, ball joints)

And, from the info I glean from this stupid kickin forum I will be able to do even more. WITHOUT the help of a dealership that has mechanics with the afforementioned bad attitude!
