A PM that was sent to me prompted me to dig out this picture. I can't remember if I ever posted it before, so what the heck.

I have the JQS Q/Ds in the front. My buddy and I decided to see what would happen if we disconnected them AND removed the rear bar. This picture was the result... sorta. I'm sure we could have gotten more height if we put something between the jack and the axle. I liked it so much, and saw NO difference in stability on-road, so I kept the rear bar off. With just the front connected, it's rides just fine

That is a 32" floor jack maxxed out. we measure 26" from the tire to the ground. All 3 other tires are still planted and the Jeep is damned near perfectly level.

wee!

the boomerang part is confusing me. When i think of "boomerang" i think of the tri-link that holds the back axle in place to the body.

what I removed was the steel bar that goes acroos the 2 control arms. As far as getting that off, an impact wrench, some contoursionist skills and 2 minutes is all you need.

what do you think the weight of the sway bar is? might be good to remove it for weight reduction as well.

Best weight reduction would be getting some lighter rims. My cragars weigh around 20lbs more a piece.

Got any shots of it offroad flexing? 8)

I can tell absolutely no difference at all without the rear bar. Probably because the rear bar doesn't actually link the axle to the body at all like the front one does. It just connects the 2 control arms. I'm really not sure why it's there at all. It's a solid axle, so it's not like the bar adds any rigidity.

Never seen light covers like those, where did they come from? Have you gotten pulled over by the fuss for not having side blinkers/signals?

Carnage, they are just the cheapo chain auto store ones you can get at Pep-Boys or Advanced Auto, places like that. They are the smoky colored ones, except I sprayed them silver to match the Jeep. The sides are still open, so the turn signal and such works just like regular.

They were my first mod ever!

Here's a side view of the same event. You can see the tail light covers better. That piece of metal on the ground in the forefront is the rear bar. You can also see that's there still a good amount of stuffage left to go before I start to rub! I can't wait to get this setup off-road.

Is it safe to drive at highway speed with it off?

I haven't had my rear bar on since that day in January noted on the picture. I have seen no negative performance at all on the highway or in the city.

On the other hand, one of the bolts for my front Q/Ds came off and it scared the living crap out of me how terribly it drove on the highway. With that front link disconnected, even the wind was making it rock WAY too uncomfortably.
