I drove to MI last year and averaged 32 mpg and did my refill at about 600 mile mark (don't remember exact miles) and the fuel light had not come on as yet.

I looked at the odometer and fuel gage this morning and the gage was on 3/4 mark with 137 miles on the odometer.

We test drove one of those trucks, and thought about it, thought about a 300c for about 10 G's more, then had them do a dealer trade to pick up the last CRD within 500 miles.

I really wasn't disenchanted with my CRD...I was frustrated that it was taking so long to get parts for it, but I loved the jeep. That said, I had some very reasonable concerns about the future of such a specialized, limited production vehicle and future parts availability.

I won't be adding any more responses to this post, and again didn't mean to start a fight. But I do find it odd that so many negative replies were added. So many of you seem a bit defensive about your CRD ownership--completely unwilling to even consider the possibility that it may not be a good idea in the long term. Unless the cult car post is correct, I think CRDs may begin a long downward spiral in the resale department. But best of luck to you all.

Agreed. Kinda ridiculous ain't it? The CRD is what it is whether we say anything or not. Amazing that some appear to be almost offended at your choice. Weird.

Although I am, in general, happy with my CRD purchase and have had little or no problems over 2 years of ownership I do agree with your assement of the situation with the car. Long term reliability is, of course, unknown and re-sale value over time cannot be determined as yet. I understand your decision to change out the vehicle and believe you made a logical choice based on many factors associated with ownership of an "orphan" vehicle.

When I bought my CRD I negotiated an extended 7year/70k warranty as part of the deal. With my vehicle usage of about 22k/year I should hit that mark sometime in the fall of '08. When the warranty is gone, I will have to make a decision between keeping the car and possibly taking big service cost hits, or getting a new vehicle. At this point I don't know what I will do as there is no other vehilce that meets my needs (4wd and good mpg). Next year, if you can believe the rumors, there may be several other options for diesels, but who really knows. Although I really do like the "ruggedness" of the Jeep I am not commited to buy another Jeep product. There probably are other vehicles I would be happy with, but I have not looked in 2 years, so we will see.

In any event, good luck with the hemi.

The hemi RAM is a nice truck. I know a guy that bought one and was very happy with it. It all comes down to a matter of preference. I think all of us CRD people and many of the TDI guys over at Fred's just hate gassers period because we feel diesel is superior. What it all comes down to is what works for you and what you are happy with. There is no reason to keep a car/truck you are not happy with just because someone else tells you it is better.

My personal opinion is that I wouldn't buy the hemi ram if I was going to get a truck....I would OPT for the cummins diesel RAM. But again, that is just my opinion. The reason I don't have one now is because I would be in divorce court if I went out and dropped 40k+ on a Cummins.

That said, congratz on your purchase Farm and I hope you are happy with it. I personally love my CRD and the price I got it for, so I will likely be keeping it until it dies.
