So did they tell you Moogs were bad and needed replaced, or were they just doing the recall regardless of their condition?

Get your jeep back and stay far away from this Dealer.

You had a good quality set of greasable Moog's on there - with maintenance it solves all of the lower ball joint problems and would have probably lasted the life of the Jeep.

They pulled those off - to put on a set of Jeep replacements.....

These people are clueless.

Although - I will admit that the top photo - shows the contrast in threads - so that bolt was tightened with the threads messed up - no way to tell if it was that way when it went in - or if they did it and backed it off.

Ok, called Jeep today. Gave them the whole scenario, and the customer service lady was understandably pissed. I am a FIRM believer that if you complain enough to corporate, enough to get someone in trouble, and they still have your vehicle, they will screw it up in some malicious way (dirt in the oil, etc etc)

Right now the plan is to get the new nuts on, get my jeep back, pay what i have to pay, then consult a lawyer and Jeep. I cant even get it back right now because its on the lift, undrivable

The moog ball joint looked to be in great shape, but the cap was missing from the top, which could have happen when they were removed. If the cap does go missing on your moogs, you can tell grease will come thru the hole, and grease the bottom of the CV. If you keep the moog well greased (say every other oil change) you will not have to worry about loosing the cap, the moog units will out last the OEM, even with the cap gone.

As for the axel shaft, one of my OEM units stripped out like that, I couldn't tell if it was from the factory, or from the gorrila that replaced my BJ under the first recall. About 10K miles later I had the Moog's put in.

Good luck with the KJ, and good luck overseas, and thanks for the great job you are doing for us and your Country. You as all the other service men and women will be in my prayers.

Al

i just had mine replaced last weekend, watched the guy disassemble my jeep he took a steel hammer and just beat the end of every threaded item to get it out (including the axleshafts) Seeing how shinny these marks are i would say he did it, No way that was like that and you ran it for a while, exposed steel will get rusty and dirty, espically on the axles i dont care how its driven,

Never having seen this disassembly before, why are they beating on the end of the axle anyways? It's not a taper shaft like a ball joint. Isn't there a detent in the end of the axle to engage a puller pin? Is there a proper puller tool to do this so the blunt instrument method isn't needed? If not, this looks like a predictable outcome.

I cannot necessarily prove that they messed it up, so I ended up paying the $120 for the labor and new nuts to get it fixed. I didn't chicken out, I really just wanted my jeep back and get it away from those guys, and if paying $120 was what I had to do to get it back, oh well. I got an alignment done, but now it is clunking. I wonder what that could be from.

Should I call Jeep and make them replace my perfectly good MOOGS? I mean, why would the dealer pull those without asking? Should I demand a new axle?

When I called for the reimbursement for the MOOG ball joint I installed myself. They issued the reimbursement, but also told me to go to the nearest dealer and have them replaced with genuine Jeep ball joints. Until I do so the recall will remain open and in effect on my Jeep.

Thus I guess the policy is not to check or ask questions. If the Jeep come in under recall, just replace the LBJs regardless.

well man here is my idea for you. Now that you paid for all the repairs and got screwed by the dealership go to jag an have them roll into the dealership... in uniform and thats usually ehough to get someone to do what you want. Nobody wins against the federal government.
