I was given a choice by the boss tonight: trade in the KJ with the wacky ESP module on a '06 unlimited, or keep the KJ and get a CJ/YJ/TJ trail rig (5-10k range and DD as far as I'm concerned) and use the KJ to pull the camper or what ever.

Opinions?

Get the CJ and keep the KJ..then behind the bosses back, keep ordering stuff for the KJ...simple enough. Until she leaves you

A lot of guys on the board are going to the JKs...can't say I blame them

The KJ has a computer/electronics fault that they can see, 10% of the time, but can't fix. It will kill engine RPMs when you pull out to the right and accelerate. It will also (<5% of the time) use the ABS when you are doing a slow gentle stop on dry roads. I would not sell this KJ on LOST because I like you all too much. The deal has told me that if I trade it in on the TJ, it WILL go to auction rather than their used car lot. I will not buy anything more for it, other than gas and oil.

The JK has the same ESP crap that is causing the KJ to suck. I will not get another ESP'd car/truck.

So even if you keep the KJ you still need to pull the camper and what if it messes up while the campers attached? But I am like you I dont want anything with the ESP stuff attached. A CJ/or TJ would be nice as a DD and trail rig if you can find one in good shape and the right price.

With that said, Think I would keep the KJ and hope someday there is something/someone to fix it right and get a FUN TOY for everyday!

Why don't they just fix it?...And where I work,we never say we can't.It may take a little longer than expected, and we may have to eat a few parts,but....we will fix it. Even if they were just parts changers and not good tech's,you would think that with an unlimited supply of parts that they would guess right sooner or later.
You may have already heard the story of my 97 Dakota that had water coming in my passengers floor board.I took it back 3 times and they asked me if I wanted to Lemon Law it.My reply was....No,I'm going to show you where the water is comming in from, and your going to fix it.They removed my right front fender, put some dumb dumb in the gapping pinchweld, and respot welded it.It's been fine for almost ten years now.

The only thing with the whole 'not buying a vehicle with esp', every vehicle will have it VERY soon. Everyone says its the next best thing since seatbelts.

Moms Jeep has esp and Ive never had the traction control kick in. Only time the esp kicked in when was I turn a turn to fast.

I believe Jeep could use better tires on their Jeeps. Then esp and traction control would never been needed.

I wouldnt give up either, sooner or later someone will come up with what the real problem is. I know when I worked in a (dare I say it) Ford dealership in the 70s, we had a few that took some time but we finally got to the root of the problem.

LiLredLibby have to tell you about a water leak in a 78 Thunderbird Diamond Jubilee Edition sometime

No brainer from what I'm understanding, the 06 unlimited if it's gonna be dual purpose, but I dont understand why your boss would be willing to let you keep the KJ and buy you a trail rig? Is he hiring?

It did it with the Timberline MT's on dry pavement. Their was no slip, it's a computer/electronics glitch. They can't get any readouts to indicate what is wrong, and they don't want to just replace parts willy-nilly.

An 06 unlimited ( LJ ) will pull 3500 easy . if what you pull has breaks you will love it.if you dont need the 2 extra doors like the Liberty you will have just as much fun in the LJ. then get a early model TJ for fun rides and fix it up how you want it.
We did it and now the LJ sits except on trail rides and the wife drives a 2000 S10 as her DD while I play with both LJ and KJ,
Just a thought.

I was saying that with better tires from the factory, we wouldnt even need the esp installed on the Jeep. :)
