I just got back from a trip to NYC in serious monsoon conditions. I was seriously worried about a wet airfilter with the rain just dumping on us, and traffic splashing up waves of stuff right up over the hood. Went there and back mostly in 4 wheel full-time, pretty slow going down, hitting 50 mph headwinds...and burning rubber coming back mostly 70+. Hit the 300 mile mark getting in the driveway and its just a tad below 1/2 tank. That's just plain psycho good mileage. Can't wait to re-fill and calculate. Don't know if it is still winter diesel but it is nice that diesel is cheaper than gas.

Forded 1.5 foot water on the "closed" flooded west-side highway. Since this baby-pram hasn't gotten much mud time, does that count as "off-roading"?

now, to got get the water out of the basement.... :(

I would say so. Extreme conditions. You did get a wet filter from it most likely. Might want to check it out. That is some great mileage. It sucks out here because diesel is usually 30 cents higher than gas. Right now, it is 22 cents higher.

From the time I did the switch over to ORM and start checking MPG's again my fuel was switched from 50 cetane B10 to 46 cetane or less non bio ULSD. The ULSD so I have heard may drop your mileage 1% to 2%, winter fuel about 5% or a little more, then probably another 1% or 2% for the drop in cetane from the B10 or B2 we had been running from first fill.

All that said we have averaged 18 mpg for the last two fills and we are hoping this tank was summer fuel so we could see a 2 or 3 mpg increase maybe.

Got pricing on a new GC Limited with MB V6 CRD, and the MB tranny, list was $42, 800 and out cost would be about $38,500 w/o trade. However the CRD is not yet available for US sales, and may not be for a couple more months. I hear they are delaying due to ULSD availability, Euro demand, and forth coming big add compaign and maybe some special offerings. Seems D/C (MB?) wants to have 30% of its new cars sold in US be diesels for '08 with the EPA now approving the AdBlue/Blutec systerm.

What I guess we will try to do is trade both the Magnum and the Liberty in on the GC CRD, but I just doubt that we can keep from getting hosed that way. I may also look at a MB R320 CDI, we can buy it about the price as a GC will set us back. Found a dealer willing to do EP (employee pricing) for any MB on the lot so we might go that way.

Went ahead and tanked up tonight. 522 miles, 18.5 gallons, 28.2 MPG average for the tank. Citgo ULSD, 6 ounces LFT, extensive use of OD Lockout. Vented off both fuel filters, got rid of all the air on the first vent, nothing but fuel after that, 550 miles since I installed my modified vent valve and coated all the connections on the filter head with liquid electricians tape.

got back from a 900 mile trip last night, half ORM, the other stock, 28 mpg both ways, 90% @ 70-73mph on the 5.
sounds like people are noticing a bigger difference for city driving. Did sound better and was more responsive, waiting for a CEL work around to keep the stealership unawares; the soot issue is reason enough to go ORM all the time, but I have 87K left on warranty still, can't risk it yet.
