I have had my 06 up to 119 before I had to back out of it. I never have had mine go into the detune mode which I hope it never does this is one of the reasons that I bought it. I've cruised at 100+ and felt safe a comfortable. I do have the tc problem but have yet to recieve my recall and haven't got it in for repairs yet.

Well I had the wife's CRD up to 115 mph last week w/o any problem, the CRD went passed 4000 rpm in every gear and never stumbled. I was very impressed, and quite pleased with the performance.

Here's a couple CRDs for sale out in the PNW:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/car/307366233.html

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/305788101.html

One is a dealer, one is a private owner. These Sport CRDs with mileage in the teens are going for almost what they went for new with 0 miles.

Crazy? Well, the prices on TDIs here are also pretty crazy.

Definitely we were the smart ones. The bugs have been ironned out (IMHO) or we as a group are solving them. And then we'll have huge miles on these things and they will be worth serious money. Remember, Jeep bits DO last, and diesel engines DO last..so what is possible?

Imagine this: buying a 10 year old Jeep with 180,000 miles on it for real money: $10-12,000. Won't happen with a gasser, but it will with the CRD. Think i won't happen? Look at the TDI passats. Their price pretty much flettens out over time and high mileage.

We are living the dream. If I had the money, I'd buy up some 05's in 2008 (at the end of the diesel drought). That will be a good time to catch some deals.

Yup, my Jetta TDI is worth much more than what I bought it for at the end of its lease. Not sure if the Lib CRD will do as well, but the potential is there.

Well you guys don't really have a cult car until you own a something like my MB 2.5L Turbo Diesel. Total for MY 89 through 91 was 523 car's at base list price of $39,700.

006 units in 89
308 units in 90
209 units in 91
-------------------
523 units total

Those are cult car numbers.

I agree with the cult character of the CRD, looked for over three months to find mine, 8000 miles on an '05 limited with all the options at a toyota lot in SLC, sat neglected while the 13 mpg FJ cruisers were flying off the lot.

I have to laugh at the guys driving them, all puffed up and offroad ready but 99% of the time they are racing stoplight to stoplight or interstateing around sucking the wallet dry.

I will be keeping the CRD till I can give it to my now 18 month old as a graduation gift. By then we may all be driving bio-dieselectric hybrids. I hope.

I just got back from Europe, where it seems most cars are diesel. My sister-on-law (who is Dutch) has a diesel PT Cruiser. Drives very nice.

I had hoped to wait for a diesel Liberty or Wrangler (yes!) to replace my 10 year old JGC, but it was totaled by a deer. I priced the diesel JGC that is coming out and it was simply too much to justify buying a diesel in that model.

I ended up getting a Sahara Unlimited Wrangler (4-dr). So far I get about 19-20 MPG in mixed driving. I love it, but I sure wish it was a diesel. Oh well, if they ever come out with one for these two models, maybe I'll trade it in. It is tons of fun to drive though, so who knows maybe some day we will be a two Jeep family..

Naw. Thats just a rare car.

:)

No one would ever be surprised to see a Mercedes diesel. The only way they will know something is special is if they *know* MB and know how rare that car is.

I have a buddy who is a MB collector and he has a couple of the line of older MBs where MB took cars and put truck engines in them to see what the performance would be. They are sleepers. Mostly limos, or herses, or big luxury cars - with HUGE engines. He gets more people who are surprised that his car runs on GAS - as most people are used to them running on diesel. :)

I think that the CRD is a cult car because people know the Liberty and they know that a diesel Liberty is REALLY ODD. Kinda like the old diesel toyota pickups.

But it is no "Thing", that is for sure...

:)

Do you have pics of your MB? Sounds cool!

I took a short road trip today and she will just fly. I was clipping along doing 85 mph at about 3000 rpm listening to the stereo. 8)

Not a speck of rust anywhere we could find with it even up on a rack. It is in nice shape for 16 years, better the wife's CRD.

It is in nice shape, but does have it'share of dent's and dings, but nothing too bad. The passanger side door has a large shallow dent where a kid fell against the door, you really would not notice the dent if you were not looking for something wrong with the body. I paid $3600 for the car and it does need some repaires.

List of needed repairs as discovered.

1. A/C condensor needs replaced
2. Right front seat will not recline and power headrest will not work,
3. Left rear window will not work
4. Power Antanna will not lower all the way down.
5. broaken inside rear view mirror.

My guess is I will end up with about $4000 to $4200 in the car by the time a/c is repaired and it is ready for a 1500 to 2000 mile road trip.

Just got my JEEP Owners Mag in the mail.

The new Compass has 172 hp and 165 lbs of torque

The new Patriot has 172 hp and 165 lbs of torque

The Liberty Gas has 210 HP and 235 lbs of torque

The new Grand Cherokee CRD has 215 hp and 376 lbs of torque for $40,000 and will come out some day. Who know what emission problems it will have?

Also the new MB SUV diesel cost $40,000 plus - haven't seen many of those used for towing or off road.

Looks to me that Jeep is going backward, by not providing a reasonably priced diesel in any of its vehicles.

Liberty CRD performance/price still looks good compared to the above and probably will not be duplicated for a long time if ever. Like they say - they are not making any more of them.

Doesn't make much sense does it. They sold out the CRD, but won't bring another small displacement diesel to the US that is affordable.

I hear Nissan will be bringing a Maxima diesel to the US, made right here in Middle Tennessee. :)

actually... the GC is a heavier weight class & higher power rating so its emissions can be higher. Like with the diesel trucks, they increased the HP (and there fore size) of the engine to push it into the next tier of emissions so that they could produce dirtier emissions while they spend the time to tweak the engines to pass the lower emissions for smaller outputs....
