Hi,

I'm new to the CRD but not new to the jeeps. I just traded in my 97 ZJ for the CRD-KJ Sport. I'm still learning about the KJ but encountered something odd.

In the ZJ, I had an indicator panel to show when I was in 4Full, 4PT or 4LO. The owner's manual for the KJ seems to indicate that this is shown on the cluster. I've located the lights but they don't light up when I put shift between the gear ranges.

It is a selec-trac and I've tried shifting between 2WD and all three of the 4x4 gears and nothing on the display changes. Is this a quirk of the KJ that they hope you remember what gear range you're in or do I have a problem with the instrument cluster?

Any advice would be be appreciated!

Thanks!

Ed

It should light up on the bottom of the speedometer IIRC.

You may a position sensor malfunctioning. Mine light up and yours is the first I have heard of. There has been those that shift out of 4x4 and the light stays on.

I was wondering if that might be the case. It just seemed odd to have the lamps on the cluster but not work. But it is a "Certified Pre-Owned" so I figured they might have checked that too....I guess not! :)

Yes! It is "Certified Pre-Owned' but not necessary pre-checked. I used to work used cars in my younger days and the salesman go for the curb warrenty, once the tires roll off the lot over the curb, the warrenty is over.
