The KJ diesel is in such a demand here that the stealerships have a waiting list for used ones

Hmmmm, may there's an export opp. Over here there's not much demand and they're pretty much worthless used, well compared to what we paid for them

I wouldn't say that. When I was looking for mine they were pretty scarce, and still pretty expensive. Just last week I paid $19,100 for my '05. Some dealers around here who actually had one were asking over $20,000 for the '05 models. I don't think I saw an '06 for sale.

Diesel cars and trucks are in huge demand in and around Nashville. You can find Jettas, Golfs, big three pickups galore for dirt cheap UNLESS it has a diesel engine. In that case, you will likely pay nearly DOUBLE for it. When I was looking for a used Jetta TDI, I could find nice gassers a couple years old for $10k-$12 with low miles. The TDI models, with tons of miles on them, several years old, were $16k-$18k. It was actually a better deal to buy a new one, but no dealers had the TDI model on their lot long. I went to look at one and it was sold before I got there! This was compounded by the fact that VW did not import the TDI for 2007.

The climate here isn't very cold, and fuel is available just about anywhere. So a diesel in Middle Tennessee has a lot of upside. I emailed a local fuel company and they are expanding their distribution of B20 fuel to 13 more local stations this summer. The person I contacted said it is in "high demand".

We have RHD vehicles - importing LHD vehicles are illegal.

I went to look at one this morning - 2006 2.8 CRD Auto Limited, 17" star rim, sun roof, 29 000 miles. It has a full maintenance plan till 37 000 miles. Not sure if the US has maintenance plans. I think it is unique to the SA market. Every service and repair is covered - only thing you have to worry about is your fuel and tires. Price was $37 000 - so about $14 000 loss in one year over new price. They offered me $16 000 for my 2002 3.7 Sport, which is not a bad trade-in price - relates to about a 50% loss in value since 18 September 2001.

While I was there the salesman convinced me to drive a WJ 2.7. This was actually the first ever diesel I have driven. Must say it is totally different to driving a petrol. I am used to letting my 3.7 change over at 2000rpm. Drove the 2.7 the same and the salesman said to give it some gas as they drive better at higher revs - is this what WOT is all about? The turbo lag was slightly annoying but once it gets going (hits boost??) it moves nicely - actually very nicely. Smooth gearchanges - unlike my KJ where you sometimes get a bit of a kick in up or down shifts. Mmm, a 2.7 WJ Limited is looking very tempting. It drives far smoother than my KJ, but the KJ feels more stable on-road. Not sure if it was this specific vehicle, but it had quite a bit of body roll. My seats also felt more supportive.

My wife still likes the KJ but I am tempted to go for a WJ.
