So, after cleaning my boost sensor and finding oily sludge and diagnosing what I though was an oil leak as just the CCV hose leaking out onto the turbo, I have a new-found sense of wanting to make everything on the intake clean and efficient. I'm probably going to:
1) install a provent
2) clean the intercooler
3) clean some of the hoses
So, the questions I have are:
- Why does no-one seem to install the drain back to the oil sump with their provent installs? The manufacturers instructions show how to do it and the oil came from the sump anyway, so why not put it back in and let the filter do its job?
- I might run some custom-bent hard-lines for the provent. What material is the best to use considering I'll have to do the bends myself? Is a copper alloy suitable or is it too reactive a metal considering what's going to go through it?
- Is there a CRD-specific intercooler howto around somewhere? I can't find one, but there are several on the TDI boards which seem perfectly applicable. Any gotchas to note from folks that have done it?
