Recently purchased a used CRD with 12.5K on it. Drove it another 4K getting back from the East Coast. I'd like to change the oil and filter myself. If I have a file with the receipts for oil and filter along with a photo of the odometer reading will this keep the warranty intact ( assuming I do the other things called for in the maintenance schedule)? Does the vehicle need to go to the dealer to reset the 'next service due' light?

Thanks.

You are not even required to keep receipts, just a log of when any work done and what parts used. With an oil change just the date, mileage, oil type and brand and the filter used such as OEM or in case of after market brand name and part number. Same way when doing the differential fluid change, when and what type fluid used when doing the change. Reciepts only is not considered proof of work done, I think due to return posibility. Logs are good in any court in the land if kept proper.

You can reset the "next service due" by holding down the "reset" button for about 3-5 seconds while in the service due menu. You can also change the intervals in there as well.

I just keep a log with date, miles, what was done. I do also keep receipts even though it is not necessary, as was said. I use the Mopar oil filter and get it at the dealer and have the receipts also. This is the only thing I ever get at the dealer. I'm sure this is unnecessary but that's the way I do it.
