Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar issues....

I bought a used 05 CRD in Jan 07, the day after I bought it the intake hose fell off (coming from the intercooler I believe). Took it to the dealership where they had to fix it three more times that afternoon because everytime I left, it fell off again. Then last time it seemed to be on there pretty good. Three months go by with no issues, thank God because I just got back from driving it to Wisconsin (1800mi round trip) with my two month old son and wife in the car. Then yesterday at five in the morning it fell off again. Fixed it twice on the way to the dealership, leave it there. They called me yesterday afternoon and tell me the check engine light is on now, which I knew, and they don't have any techs that are familiar with the diesel Jeep engine, so they tightened it back down and I should take it (drive it) another 40mi to the other dealership who does. I'm now a little pissed, since it fell off again this morning just outside of my neighborhood. I'm not driving it 40mi.

I guess my question is...Has anyone else experienced similar issues with the intake hose falling/coming off. The dealership said it might be boost related. I think someone previous to me owning it trimmed the hose and made it too short. Also, the oil inside the tube seems to be lubing it, so it just slips right off no matter how tight it's on there.

Any help is greatly appreciated and props on the site, it's been very helpful.

P.S. I already did a search and didn't find any useful info.

there is a lot for you to learn. Read the sticky's at the top of this forum for starters.

It doesnt make sense for someone to shorten the hose :?

Which one is it, the one on the passengers side or drivers side?


EDIT:

No matter what the dealer is telling you, that hose should not have oil inside of it. Search for Elephant hose mod, and provent, for fixes to that problem.

The hose on the drivers side blew off about a month ago. It sounded like a darn gun going off, had no idea what it was. I L.O.S.T. a lot of power, but thought it just went into limp home mode. No lights lit up on the dash so I just continued home. I was lucky that I was only a few miles away from home when it happened cause it was pitch black out. I just put the hose back on and tightened the clamp down real good and haven't had any problems with it since.
If it's the passengerside I think there is a factory replacement hose you can get from the dealer under warranty. I have not done so yet but it's on my list to do. :twisted:

There's a replacement hose that is supposed to be more resistant to the oil that's not supposed to be in the intake system in the first place :shock: However if your FCV (Flow Control Valve) is sticking closed there might be too much pressure being generated blowing the hoses off. There's also a improved FCV valve from your original one. Your original has/had plastic gears in it and the newer one has metal gears :D FCV may be causing your CEL. At least the dealer is being honest refusing to work on your crd.

Thanks for the replys guys. Actually according the tech working on it Joe Romas was 100% correct. It's getting fixed if the parts come in tomorrow. Oil saturated the insides of the intercooler hoses. So he's going to replace the hoses on both sides of the intercooler and spray the IC out to get as much of the oil out as possible. Still a little worried that there will be some residual oil left in there, but he's also going to put the new FCV on so hopefully it will prevent continued issues.

As a second note, the service writer tells me, "Hey did you know you have an open recall for the torque converter/ECU flash?" I am familiar from my wonderings on L.O.S.T. with the recall and asked the tech if there was anyway around it. He said you could just drive it until something happens, if something happens. What do you guys think? Do it now and lose the torque, or drive it and wait and see?

Not wanting to re-open the can of worms.....

You should probably read the numerous threads regarding the issue. There are lots of oppinions expressed and it all depends on how you use your vehicle, how long you plan to keep it, and if warranty coverage is important to you.

Speaking of which, in what part of GA are you located? I'll make a note not to go the dealer that you went to first :P

The CRD just did something its never done before. It has sat since Sat. morning when I got off of my night turn. Just finished hooking up my brake controller to the battery, brake switch, and brake line to 7 pin. Started it up, it ran for a bout 20 seconds then died. Thought maybe since I had the battery disconnected that affected the computer or something. Tried to start again, no luck. So when in doubt get out owner's manual. It says that if the vehicle doesn't start after sitting for a period of time to reprime the filter by pumping the primer 20 times. It started! What the hell. It has sat unstarted for over 3 weeks before and fired right up. Any thoughts? :evil:

I think it just lost it's prime. If I don't start mine in a weekend, it takes about 3 seconds to start instead of it's usual 1/2 second.
