I took the jeep in to the dealer because of some oil on the tranny and Becky (the service department scheduler with whom I'm on a first name basis now) told me it’s the rear main seal so when the parts get in she said it would only take a day, we'll see. I sure hope they don't screw up my jeep, you know I sure love my libby but I hate going to the dealer all the time. Well I'll keep yall posted, wish me luck.

Mine looks like it is doing the same thing - was leaking trans fluid when I first bought it (new) from the torque converter (weld was bad around the perimeter) and now it looks like it is leaking oil instead of ATF. So you aren't alone - I just haven't taken mine in yet, waiting until it's a bit more definite.

I think that it's a Jeep thing - the 4.0 was (in)famous for the rear main leaking! So now the 2.8L is taking the mantle and running with it, good and not-so-good!

Like I always say: Check your tranny fluid BEFORE you leave. They like to not refill it at all.

What if they put in too much tranny fluid? What is the best way to get it out?

Sorry but I'd opt for the Suncoast TC and shift kit and spring for the seal

Whats the status on this? Is it available and has it been tested?

They're gonna have to figure something out, thats their problem.

Had my rear main seal replaced about 8,000 miles ago. Took the Jeep in the shop for the 24,000 mile service and was told that the rear main was leaking again and will be replaced for a second time. Was not happy but at least the dealer is proactive about it and I did not have to beg to get them to change it.

Last time I spoke to Ron he said it's working well; It's been working fine since the ORM and attentive driving habits. I have put this mod on the back burner till necessary.
