I'm guessing that this adapter replaces the oem double threaded one with the allen pattern inside? Or does the adapter bolt on to the existing oem thread into the fuel head?

Stick it in a bucket of water and see it it can detect that much water, mine can't detect squat. It is a worthless POS anyway.

If you guys follow the directions I don't see how you would have any leaks. I am still convinced many here are over tiightening the filter and thus the thing leaks around the plastic. It only requires about 3/4 turn after making contact with sealing surface to have proper seal. If you over tighten the fuel filter you can crush the seal between the plastic and the aluminum filter head causing leaks.

I did good to get mine 3/4 turn. More like 5/8. Maybe the gasket was stiff from cold. Still have air in my weekly bleed session.

If you don't have any start or run issues then air does not matter. Also in a vacuum system you will always have a certain amount of air, thats just how vacuum systems are.

Never had any run issues. Only concerns after hearing guys talk about air in there, and their fuel heater electronics frying because so much air, they basically fried from lack of fuel lubrication.

Well the only way to flood the heater is have a pressure system. I have never seen a heater in the top. All of them I've seen are in the bottom or run down the center. But I think the only way it could burn up is if the key was left on without the motor running. It could call for heater but without the motor running you don't have fuel going through to keep it cool.

I see what you are saying. A couple of guys on here had theirs fry. The suspect was an air pocket in there that kept the heater dry while running. Had fuel seeping out of the electrical conection and one was smoking fuel.

Thanks, as so often, the minute I posted I saw the other thread.
What is a trip without a bit of excitement. Looks like semis running over
cars stopped for construction is what I will have to watch out for.

At 5:45 am, a little more then 12 hours of sitting after being shut off and it started w/o missing a lick. :D

Now for future reference one needs to remember to put a drain hose over the bleeder valve to prevent spraying fuel all over engine.
Will post more details after I take the Jeep to carwash.

Anyway I am suppose to meet one of the techs for breakfast at about 630, so I will be back in about 2 hours an post a full report of the install. No I didn't take pictures, I didn't want to have diesel fuel all over the camera. Ok, ok, so I just had a senior moment and forgot the camera, get over it dudes.
Maybe I will take a picture of it installed when I get back. Will that help???

I did the drain hose a couple of times. Now, I just use an old sock and hold it over the nipple. It catches what comes out and keeps it from dripping around the top of the filter so you can tell if you have a leak or not.

How many miles do you plan on running this filter before replacing?

After 15,000 miles on a VW 1.9L TDI I had only used about a 1/3 of the filtrer, see picture below. This filter was running fuel from same fuel center that Greg tested my fuel from the CRD prior to making the adaptor.

Image

Since this filter was designed for a Cat V8 diesel, I imagine if you are buying crappy/dirty fuel you should get an easy 15,000 miles out of the filter at least. Probably 20,000 miles if the service pump has a filter to get te big stuff before it goes into your tank.
