At 44,000 miles, my 2nd EGR valve just gave up the ghost. Dealer says this one will not be covered under warranty as it is an emissions issue which is only a 36 month/36000 mile warranty. Anybody else have the same experience? Any options?

I thought emissions parts were covered for 80k?

I think the emission controls for cars and trucks fall under seperate warranty laws if you check in your manual it should have a seperate listing for such items. On a previous car I owned they were covered under a 5 year 50,000 mile warranty and a few certain items were covered even longer as mandated by federal law. Check your manual hope this helps.

I've been doing some checking and it seems the EGR valve is only covered under the 36 month/36000 mile Emissions Warranty. I had one replace under warranty at around 16K and no real problems other than the occasional 55-60mph shudder. Now I am really bummed out. I really liked this vehicle but spending $450 every 16-18K miles to replace faulty EGR valves has me seriously thinking about dumping it.

Mine is covered under the extended warranty for the full 7/70,000 along with the computers and electrics that are on the same 3/36,000. For the price and getting a free loaner everytime I needed one to get around if DC had the rig, I thought it was a good deal. I've gotten my money's worth almost now with loaner rentals alone.

EGR is not covered under seperate warranty guidelines from other EPA stuff, all the seperate systems have different coverage to some degree. I looked it up on EPA website and it stated 12,000 miles or what mfg determined beyond length 12,000 miles or in case of the B to B warranty to that time/mileage. In otherwords on standard OEM warranty for the CRD it is 36/36,000 is all, I had thought it was 50,000 also and looked it up and my local SM was correct when he said 36/36,000 for warranty of EGR. Another reason for ORM before it fails in open position.

Can you ORM, then hook it back up when you need service/inspection?

Yup, but it will need to be started and shut off a couple of times to clear the code.

Maybe its time to start a class action lawsuit to make them cover this?

If it caused you a pefornance issue that could have caused you to be in an accident such as stalling or sudden drop in performance when try to merge would qualify for NTSB complaint.

Is this the cause of my CRD occasionally stalling or lurching after the first start in the morning?

Probably either fuel problem or tranny low on fluid.

Did anyone ever check on the details of this press release regarding the claim that DC was extending the warranty on the '06 CRD to 5 years or 100K?

http://wwwsg.daimlerchrysler.com/SD7DEV ... 0,00.html#

Since official press release, at least a lawyer or two could have fun holding DC's feet to the fire!

Look at that press release wording carefully:

Quote:
Chrysler Group is extending the warranty on diesel engines in all 2006 model year vehicles; the Diesel Engine Limited Warranty covers engine parts and components up to five years or 100,000 miles.

I suspect that means the engine only, with DC determining what engine means... as in excluding items that may be attached to the engine, such as electrical parts and sensors, egr/afc valves, water hoses and non engine parts. A good way to see what isn't covered under engine warranty is to look at Chrysler's MaxCare warranty for all the extra parts they cover. Interesting read.
