Been tinkering with the idea of adding an Autodimming rear view mirror to the KJ. Anyone out there already have one?

You can get one for under $50 on ebay and would make a nice new addition to the interior of the KJ i feel. Wasnt a viable option back when i purchased mine.

I've noticed as of late that alot of newer car/suvs lights are driving me nuts when they are behind me, and that with the factory tinted glass.

Anyone got any input?

Lift it! The lights won't even be noticeable. j/k, yeah, if you can do it for that cheap go for it. Sounds like it might be helpful in the way of safety too, actually.

I've got an auto-dimming rearview, too. Love it!!!! :D If I ever have a choice I'll NEVER buy a car without.

I never saw a KJ with autodimming side mirrors.. they are only heated. I have the same year and model/line KJ as jeepjeepster.

seems like people really like it. I'd be all over autodimming side mirrors like white on rice if i can find em.

Other reason i want them is i usually end up leading in the trails beacuse i know the KJ's limits and with like 3 other jeeps/trucks behind me with a doo doo ton of lights, it gets a bit cumbersome to see.

MUST HAVE!

Where do you get it, and how do you hook it up?

From the information i'm aquired through a little bit of research, they are fairly simple hook up. It looks like if you find a unit from a 2002 + UP dodge/jeep/chrysler vehicle it should go to the same bracket that is previously on your windsheild.

As for wiring goes, it looks as if you've got 3 or 4 wires. 12v, Acc, Ground and Reverse. Ive heard that hooking up reverse is optional to make it functional. The reverse wire just turns the dimming feature off when you click into reverse. I turn around when i go in reverse asnd dont use the mirror when backing up.

I find its a hinderance. Its hard to see who's sneaking up on you at night. It dims in daylight from time to time. You save $50 if you flip your mirror up.

I dont have on in my Jeep so I dont know if its the same, but my Porsche has one and I hate it.

Heated Mirrors in the Jeep would be nice.....

You can turn it on and off. Thats probably why they put the on/off on there.

Mine has never dimmed during the day..

What do you mean heated mirrors? The outside mirrors are heated.. Ive never had the rear view mirror fog/frost on me.

why would you want your rear view to dim? as black as the back window in a liberty is, i never have to flip up my manual one.

did they make the windows lighter on later models?

Yes.. But mine is also tinted and it makes a big difference.. :)

Getting the side front windows tinted helped alot with the headlights in the side mirrors though.. It was kinda bad before I had them tinted..

Sorry for delay in response, I got stuck in a mud puddle for a couple days.

Kidding aside;

True you can turn it off and on, but it would kinda be pointless if you can just flip the mirror up and down and save a fortune.

I have a base model sport, and the outside mirrors are NOT heated on my model.
