How is that possible. I thought you couldn't get a CRD in NY or CA. What happened? Something has changed? Some loop hole!? Or maybe it only applies to NYC and not NYS? I saw one last week on I-678.

Any thoughts?

I don't think it is "buying" issue. I thought you couldn't pass the emissions inspection OR even obtain registration sticker with a CRD.

Federal law protects us from State law. They can stop the sale of new but not used after they qualify.

Was it a Black CRD? Saw him last month on 684 fleeing drowning City Sunday after Tax Day (which is, sadly, my birthday). Burning rubber, never caught up with him, he got off an exit in Westchester.

It is OK to register a USED diesel in NY with over a certain number of miles.

Yes, It was black. I took a picture with my cellphone, but it is very bad, can't make much out of it. It was LTD, though. And had tinted front windows. It might have been a lady, but not very sure.. As he/she was passing me, I heard the noise. :) When ijeep was in front, I noticed the CRD badge.

I took someone to JFK that day so it could of been me. I remember puddles I had to forged through. I'm heavy on the throttle, so that could of been me. But I have a DE tag with a tinted cover no tag in front. I mention it in the following thread:

If the used diesel vehicle has over 7,500 miles on it, it can be registered in NY. The DMV did not even ask about it when I registered mine this year. I came from MD to NY.

BlackLibertyCRD: I don't think it was you, this was up in Westchester. I am pretty sure it was NY tags on there.

How fun was it going to JFK in the Monsoon? On the pluss side, with the traffic,it almost made me thankful for the Automatic Tranny.

Almost.

Nope, BlackLibertyCRD. It was a NY plate.

The traffic on Van Wyck is messed up around the clock. I hate it. The construction never seems to finish.

Talk about never ending construction, Chicago is the worst I ever seen with the most tolls to boot. I use avoid tolls on the NAV and get around most of it and save at least $40.00 pulling a trailer.

I did well with the weather and traffic there and still got a respectable 28MPG. :D

Yes, Come to Mass and you will see a Dark Khaki CRD Limited with a Mass plate. Mine! :D

Mass has the same crappy law about diesels with a very similar law as NY. Here The vehicle has to be "not new" with at least 7500 on the clock.

However, Mass Jeep dealers in my area won't sell them. Their standard answer is "it's illegal". I really think they don't want to service so limited numbers.

The dealers on the Mass boarders however, can't keep them in stock and they bring a pretty penny too.

Dad

I got a crd for christmas from my wife. I live on Long Island. She purchased it from PA. The crd had to have 7500 miles on it. We had no problem with emissions. The only problem I'm having is finding a dealer with a diesel mechanic.

You can register a Diesel Car (VW TDIs) or SUV (Jeep CRD, Powersmoke Excursion) with 7500 on the odo in the states that follow the rules Communist Air Resource Board.

Right now in NV and OR you can buy a new TDI, put the required 7500 and sell it into CA for what you paid for it new or better.
