I've got a sound similar to a card in the spokes of a bicycle (clack, pause, clack, pause, clack, pause) that started last night while braking. Didn't give too much thought to it at the time.

This morning I'm driving to school and it started doing it again when I brake so I made a mental note of it.

Get to school and back into a parking spot. I went in a little crooked so I shift to drive and suddenly lose power. Nothing nothing electronic was on at the time. Shift to park and start up and finish straightening out.

On the way home the clacking sound became more pronounced coming from the drivers side front wheel area and was occurring both when I applied the brakes and started to become noticeable when I was accelerating > 40mph.

Got home and looked under there and didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Any ideas whats going on? (if it makes any difference last week a new alternator was installed)

I hope it isn't as bad as what I did as a kid. My dad told me I put his MICKEY MANTLE card in my bike's spokes.

Why he didn't kill me, I don't know. He should have. It would have been worth about $600 now.

You may have to take the wheel off and inspect the brakes. Could be something caught between the pads that you can't see or that metal strip used for brake warning may have come loose and is getting in the way.

I'll check on that. What do you think caused the power failure?

Maybe the new alternaror is bad(it's been known to happen),the regulator for it is in the PCM so that may have gone south to.Go back to the place that installed it(if you didn't do it yourself),you should have somekind of warrenty(I hope).

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned checking the CV axles. they have a tendency to click if they tear and lose there grease. I would check the voltage that you are getting from the new alternator. also as i told you online change out all your fluids trans axles engine oil ect. after flying threw that water.

No one has said cv's since he said it only does it when braking. Take the wheels off and check the pads. Could just be a coincidence that it died. Sometimes they just die. If a check engine light isnt on, then I wouldnt worry about it. If the alternator wasnt charging, I would expect a light to come on before it would just die.

no light came on - it just died after the shift to drive =/

I didnt get a chance to take the tire off today. Will prob do that tomorrow.

And I need to find time to change the fluids... maybe this weekend

CV axles dont have to always to make the noise consitantly. Ive seen them only making noise at a certain times. i was just throwing out suggestions to check especially after what his rig went threw on our last run.
