K&N Apollo System. Does it work???

Has anyone had experience with one of these. K&N says its a "Closed Air Intake System". The thing that I like is that there is a hose that you can attatch and drop it down where you can get really cold air, but it looks very restricting. Would it be worth it to get cold air and not have a great amount of air flow??

I wonder how this would work with the Airflow snorkle? Replace the stock air box and get a good sealed air intake?

I'm not going off road, I am just looking for a way to get cold air to the engine. But will the sacrifice in restriction make up for in cold air??

Well its a closed enclosure, so its like having an air box isn't it?? And an air box is restricting.

But I think the cold air that is coming in will be worth it.
Also what could I use for insulation around the cannister so it doesn't get too hot??

an airbox isnt necessarily restrictive. the stock 3.7 liberty one is not restrictive at all, even on a mildly modified one, unlike many original intakes.

and im pretty sure if airflow is what you are going for, the k&n one would satisfy that need. they've always put out high flow stuff, its just the filtering action has been less than satisfactory.

Its pretty well known that colder air is better for your engine.. more dense and carries more oxygen for the same volume as hotter air. this aids in performance mixed with the proper balance of fuel. as for a CAI, most people relocate the filter down under the car, obviously a HUGE mistake on SUV esp if off roading. If you are off roading, you need much more protection from dust than you need a huge intake ability.. little particles of sand in your engine is a nightmare..

If youre driving around the city, sure a CAI will help. and open air filter sometimes gives you more air than a box, however, most compainies manufacture the box with an inlet so air is forced into the box. Usually, using tubing or ducting can facilitate moving colder air into the engine bay, but in the end your talking peanuts compared to watermelons unless you really go all out with it. In some cases, the drop in filter actally can outperform a cone filter. Its usually a trial and error thing, but either way, make sure you use the filter for what it is used for, protecting your engine from debris. (dont put a nylon stocking over the throttle body and think your a bad booty for getting alot of air in your engine.. lol.
