There is a thread on jeepsunlimited.com where a guy(a mechanic I think) cut the CRD Mopar filter apart and noted that there was major differences between it and the V-6 filter.........I'll see if I can find it.

And I am using Rotella synthetic 5w-40 it more than meeps Mopars requirements and is around $13.00 a gallon ,I'm very happy with it.

Here's the thread http://65.42.106.152/forums/showthread.php?t=666025&highlight=crd+filter

It contains some of the same over emotional comments. Read it, make up your own mind. I get mine for free, so I don't care about Wix, Fram, Autolite, or anyone else in the filter business for that matter. On vehicles that I put 20K or more miles a year on, I run Mobil1 with a Mobil1 filter. It's a personal choice. Doesn't make me right, doesn't make me wrong. Whoops, never mind. I pay the notes, so therefore I MUST be right. Same with your vehicle.

If you read the part about the Fleetguard Stratipore, now you know why I'd love to have one of those to fit a CRD. Unfortunately the LF3339, which crossed over from the Wix part number, is just a Ford gas engine filter. :(

Picked up a Mopar filter from the dealer today. It's certainly made different from the typical oil filter I'm used to. Purolator, Mobil 1, STP, and Fram now have filters with dedicated part numbers just for the CRD, different from the V6. Went by Autozone and Advance to look at them and compare them to the Mopar filter. They didn't have the Mobil 1 filter in stock, but the Purolator, STP, and Fram were configured just like the Mopar filter.

Mobil 1 M1-211, Fram and STP 8316, Purolator L25230 and PL25230.

Mobil 1 number was in their new cross-reference catalog at Autozone, but they don't have their computers updated yet to list ANYTHING for a CRD!
