that's too much i paid $68 for the reprogram kit for my 45rfe off of ebay, although now i don't see anymore on ebay. i could of sworn people were getting the kit for the 42 for like $28.

i dont know why everyone has such a hard time with a big mess. when i dropped my pan, i dont think i spilled one drop outside the drip pan.

and the pan gasket that comes with the fram kit (truck tranny) works great, no rtv needed.

dropping the pan isn't the messy part, it's the valve body that is the endless supply of red, smelly fluid.

ok... thanks... so you can really only get these from APS, or direct from Transgo then?
how are some people saying they bought them for around $25?

Thanks,

Mark

Good question. The Kit was just made available not long before I bought it. As a matter of fact, I was the first to buy the KIT from APS. The KIT was designed for transmission shops to install when they do a rebuild or transmission install. It’s known as a Correction Kit rather than a performance modification. If you are in a hurry, I would just pay the extra few dollars and order the KIT from APS or Transgo. I think I paid $40 dollars from APS. Let me know what you think after the install.

Has anyone installed the Shift kit on their 42RLE?

Mine is sitting over here beside my bed..

Ive bought 5quarts of mopar oil so far(Just got it tonight actually).. I didnt know if that was all I needed or not, so Ive not bought anymore yet. Does anyone know if I need more?

I will get some free time in around 3 weeks so Im hoping to attempt it then.. If I mess it up then I guess Ill call a rollback and have a shop fix it.. idk.. Im really worried about it and Im not sure what to do. I read over the instructions a few times and it doesnt seem TO bad.. So we will see.. :?

Only thing I do not know so far is if I need more seals when I drop the valve body. Does it have a reusable seal on it? Idk how that freaken thing works yet.. I know Ive ask that question before but idk what the answer was.

Why are you needing to know if anyone has had it put on? Are you just curious?

Yep, just curious. The more I drive the Liberty, the more I really like it. Don’t get me wrong, I love driving my Cummins, it’s like driving a mini Semi with incredible power. But I also like sitting in that little Liberty cockpit. I really like how the Jeep shifts now, I was hoping to hear how everyone else feels about their shift kit regarding the 42RLE. I didn't do the install so I can't give you much advice. I think the total lose of trany fluid was about 7 quarts as it slowly leaked from the T.C. Obviously the spacer plate wasn't installed as the trany was still on the Jeep. The instructions as you will read says that you can skip this step if the trany is still on the vehicle. I wish you the very best on the install. If you don’t feel comfortable, take it to a reputable trany shop. Side Note: I've heard that the upgraded T.C. will do the 42RLE great justice thus allowing the shift Kit to shine a little more. I am wanting to upgrade the T.C. eventually.

JeepJeepster,

If you're not comfortable installing it yourself, you can take it over to the Cottman Transmission on Winchester Rd. They installed my shift kit, torque converter, and 4.10's. Not cheap, but they do excellent work, and have a lot of experience with Jeeps.

How much did you pay for the new T.C Kyliberty?

Wonder how much they would charge to install just the shift-kit? I figured they would be high.. Tranny work usually is..

The TC was $460 plus core from APS. Depending on how complicated the shift kit is, I would think a few hundred. I had them do mine because there was no way that I was going to mess with my transmission after already blowing up a motor. Give Rusty a call and he should be able to quote a price for you. He does all my transmission and differential work.

I'm pretty sure the shift kit would be a much cheaper installation for the 42RLE. Side Note: I don't know any one running the new T.C. for the 42RLE. I would be interested as Wayne seemed to hype it up.

to anyone who has installed the kit themselves....when removing the valve body do I need to remove the torq's head bolts as well as the 10mm head bolts? I have the 10mm head bolts out now and the valve body is loose but wont come out, so do I need to remove the torq's head bolts also?

no just take out the 10mm bolts, it's probably stuck on the valve body connector rubber o ring. it seals the valve body at the case where the connector is. mine was a witch to get out too. you can't see it till you get the vavle body down. oh and mine is a 45rfe, the 42 could be different. there was a few people on this board that had trouble getting it down also if i remember correctly.

I took the bolts out and couldnt get it to move. Dropped down around 1in then stopped. I was worried I was going to mess something up so I pushed it back up and torqued the bolts to proper spec.

Not done anything since. :?

Ive started a savings fund for now. Im wanting to get a TT, get it installed, and get the shift kit installed.

I last installed the Transgo shift kit on March 15th, 2007 with 1,700 miles on the KJ. I just opened the transmission pan for the first time with 21,631 miles on the transmission. The transmission pan magnet was spotless, the fluid was clean, and everything looked new. I just installed a new trany pan with a drain plug, so I can now service the transmission without having to drop the pan and remove the skid plates. The service tech recommended a drain interval of every 15,000 miles. He said HEAT is the worst enemy.
