Congrats... I think you'll enjoy the difference. The combination of the SunCoast TC better engagement and smoother power transfer, and the shift-kit really makes a nice difference. It's a great feeling to know one can go on a road trip and not be concerned about being stranded on the side of the road again. Even though my original TC was replaced at 18K, less than 10K miles later, the replacement was making some strange noises and was slipping more as time progressed. The metallic rattle had returned and I just didn't trust it to make it another 10K miles.

As a point of interest, I spoke with someone this morning who is scheduled to have a SunCoast TC/Transgo shift kit and new pump installed - there was a delay because Chrysler is giving the independent tranny shops a difficult time when they order the new style tranny pump. I know when I first called my local Jeep parts dealer, they gave me a difficult time - wanted to know why I wanted one, and would not give me a price unless I furnished a VIN first. Parts guy told me STAR wanted to know why I wanted it, and they want to know whenever one is sold at retail versus the dealer. I don't understand why they even care as long as they're selling parts.

Does anyone know if there is a reason why the Suncoast TC has a stall of 1500 RPM and not say 1200 RPM? I'm trying to budget for the TC and was curious.

They want to "know" so that they can void any future transmission warranty on the CRD with that VIN #. They are going to claim aftermarket parts/work voids thier warranty responsibility. There wouls be no other reason than that.

You're probably right... that winning attitude of Chrysler management shining through again. It's working out so well for them, they should write a book.

What are the chances that anyone who would pay for a real transmission solution out of their own pocket would ever return to let Chrysler work on it? Or buy anything from them again?

I have a friend who owns a tranny shop that I'd ask to buy the pump from...I don't think DC would ask questions then.

You could give them the VIN of a 1500 Ram Hemi...

Might not be quite on the up and up, but they only asked for a VIN right  ......VIN's are almost always given in ads for used vehicle sales, ebay, autotrader etc. etc......

Or just tell them it is going in an offroad buggy that has no VIN.

They are asking the tranny shops for a VIN. I called to ask for a price quote, not buy it. I let the tranny shop buy everything. The tranny repair shop had to provide a VIN before they would sell it to him.

Would be fun to mess with the bean counters - let everyone who buys a pump use the same Hemi VIN :-)

From what Ranger1 has related to me from crdmike and my local tranny guy, Chrysler has been reading this thread and noticed the reports that the Suncoast TC made the driveline vibrations go away. From what he said, Chrysler actually called up the local tranny shop and asked him what he did to cure the problem!

Because we are TRUE JEEPERS, we are the best free R&D they will ever find. If they woud have listened to us months ago, they could have avoided the F37 and just put in quality TCs and Pumps...and check fuel delivery problems.

There's more Development work going on here - than there is in Chrysler Engineering -

Of course they're focused on getting thinner lighter tires to get better mileage specs...........

Ok...I need some advice from you tranny gurus.

I was on my way to work today, cruising down the interstate at 70mph. I was not acclerating, just steady cruise.

Out of no where I hear a loud "THUNK" and the RPMs jumped from about 2000 up to about 3500, then as quickly as the jumped up, they went back down. It felt like the transmission downshifted to 3rd very violently. Almost like a clutchless downshift. It's never done that before.

Any ideas??

Was your cruise control On?

When I go on trips and have cruise control on and am going down hill that has happended to me several times.

Don't know what in crusie control causes it.

When the cruise control is on it keeps you at a set speed. When I'm pulling a hill, it'll sometimes shift down for a few seconds, then shift up again. Going downhill, it shifts down to slow down if the speed is more the 4-5 miles over what it's set for. If that's what's happening, you'll learn to drive around it...i.e. take hills at certain speeds and disengage the cruise on the way down hills (great for gas mileage!)

No...no cruise control. Flat, level road. Just cruising at 70mph.

It wasn't anything normal. It actually scared the crap out of me, the "CLUNK!" was that loud. Like downshifting a manual tranny without the clutch.

Same thing happend to me, driving along the interstate about 65 then...CLUNK!!!
I thought I ran over someting. Maybe the motor fell out...but it kept running fine
with no problems .
That was two weeks ago. I just thought it was a fluke and hope it will never happen again.

Yep...that's it...that's the first thing I though...that I'd run over a big truck tire or something, then I noticed the RPMs up at 3500...I knew that wasn't right.
