Opinions wanted about why you like this forum

I am taking a college class in E-commerce and must write a paper analyzing an online business or business sector. I thought it would be fun to analyze jeep forums. I would like to know what is it that makes you use this forum over others.

Knowledgeable, friendly people. That and it's for my type of Jeep.

Very friendly forum. All or almost all Jeep owners. Very helpful with problems. Spam is taken care of very quickly. Very little flaming. Credit goes to good Mods and good members.

With respect to e-commerce, several of the vendors that make KJ products are the same people that post helpful solutions to others in these forums, build friendships, go to events, etc. There's nothing like the endorcement of a fellow enthusiast to know that a product will be supported and enthusiastically so. Even though many of the vendors are small and have limited products, their commitment to the community gives them a "brick and mortar" feel.

When I first got the Liberty - My past automtive information sources had been Magazines - so I started looking for a Magazine that had good articles dealing with problems, ideas , modifications - and I found nothing.

So I did some internet searches - I found a couple of other forums first and saw a comment on lift kits - saying - check out LOST they're into that stuff. So I did - and I've been impressed, I'm hooked I get upset if I miss a day.

Much more information here than any magazine - and the people a friendlier (even if the moderators have to work a bit to keep things under control)

Also as the CRD forum started developing - I've gotten better information, better product development and troubleshooting there than anything I've seen from Chrysler.

So for e communication
1) an Internet forum - takes the place of a print magazine (actually several)
2) Internet forum - giving better more timely accurate information than the manufacturer

the wealth of info on this site and the guys / gals on it.
i wouldnt have anything for the jeep without first starting here, for the opinions if nothing else.

boy....wouldnt know how to tie in the business part.....

Ive said it for years, I could write a social, physiological, and psychological doctorate thesis on internet forums.......its a very interesting subject, many social networks, clicks within forums, differing levels of accepted behavour.....

Its really quite interesting if your the type of person who is an observer of human nature, and you read enough different car forums.

Heck I regularly check about 5 different Z-car forums, each one offers something different so I contribute differently to each one.

No matter what question I have ever had, I have had it answered here within minutes/hours. The people here are well informed and REALLY know their stuff. No b.s., just facts and opinions based on experience. The site has me hooked...

Because this site doesn't suck. Every other jeep site I've been on (save for KJ country) has sucked. People have their heads too far up their collective wrangler booty to be able to see that the wrangler isn't the ultimate vehicle for everyone- it may be the most capable offroad, but onroad...well...lets say that I've been on beds of nails that were more comfortable for long rides.
I just inserted myself onto two seperate arguments on the JKBoard- one about the JK not being the ultimate vehicle and the KJ being a fine example of a vehicle, and the other about someone saying that we should drill for oil in Alaska, Utah, the eastern seaboard, colorado...basically anywhere there's oil, drill it and suck it dry, that way we can all love nature from the comfort and laziness of our jeeps spewing exhaust everywhere :evil:

. I'm growing to hate my wrangler, and it's because of people like them.
OTOH, LOST is a great site, everyone knows that we all play for the same team, everyone is more or less polite to everyone else (with a few execptions of course), everyone plays by the rules, and people here are genuinley friendly when you ask a question. Even questions such as "is the KJ right for me? I'm considering an FJ as well". Of course the information may be slightly biased sometimes, but at least it's good information. And, the trips are fun! It's one of the only sites I've been on that activley has strangers meeting up to go off into isolation on a regular basis, and has everyone return the next day. That trust thing says alot about the community here.

1. The site is a cooperative. No product is being pushed down our throuts. Advertising is featured, yet unobtrusive
2. The moderators do an excellent job of organizing content and taking out the trash.
3. The community has a shared interest: the KJ (and other models).
4. Positive reciprocity, the sign of a strong community: Somebody helped me by sharing info. I try to help by sharing info.
5. The online social network bridges to a personal social network.
6. The experts on this forum may have more knowledge than the local experts you pay for.
7. It's entertaining and informative. An excellent hobby.

I believe the personal, well-mannered, constructive value of this site is a reflection of the site's founders. I believe a crew of KJers out west brought their club onto the net and have done a superb job expanding it. They probably could have sold out for a profit at the cost of content integrity.

This site is an interesting topic for an e-commerce paper because it's a meeting of extremes. The site is a virtual environment about a very physical item (the KJ) and activity (ever been stuck in the mud at night?). You may want to consider how much business is generated from this site based on recommendations. I've recommended "jparts" at least 4 times. The site may not be a money maker on it's own (I really don't know, the moderators may be rolling in dough), but I'm sure it's brought in some green for the businesses that have developed a good reputation. Of course, others have been burnt on this site.

1. Wealth of technical info.....lets face it, a majority (if not all) are DIY'ers and sharing information about how to do certain things is intersting and fun to learn

2. Good people....its cool the kinds of people you meet and get to know, plus it's a network among people with common interests who can meet and go on wheeling excursions a few times a year.

3. It's just plain addicting.....I've gotten really addicted to this site and my KJ...not sure what it is but it keeps me coming back to read. Thanks to this site I'm pretty much hooked on the Jeep brand for the rest of my life.

Friendly, really knowedgable people is the main draw for me. Not nearly as much flaming as you see on other boards comes in a very closed second.

Very informative friendly community what is willing to go the extra mile to explain or even post a picture to clarify something in particular. You are able to sell your unwanted items and possibly find something you have been looking for.

I started on a different site and everyone that gave a straight up answer with no bs or flaming had lost in their sig. I decided to save some time and just come here instead. I love this place.

"strangers meeting up to go off into isolation" is accurate and makes me laugh. Once you've met these strangers you realize what a good group of people we have here.

Darby and a few others started the forum first, the real live clubs came second.

Before I found this place...before I found the KJ...I HATED online forums. Everybody flames and insults and picks apart everyone's posts. No thread stays on topic. Nothing ever actually gets resolved...vultures just sit around waiting for someone to post so they can say, "You're an idiot for thinking/saying/doing (add item)!" They literally have so much time on their hands that they shop through the other people's posts to find someone to point at. They're pathetic and I have no room in my life for that kind of stupidity. Trust me, I see enough stupidity with my own eyes. I don't need to go out of my way to meet strange new people spread around the world who act stupid too.

This site got LOST from all that junk. We treat each other with respect, provide information when we can, occasionally chat about stupid meaningless stuff, ask questions when we need to, and never worry about the idiots who think someone else is inferior because their shirt, house, or vehicle is different from their own.

Thank you all very much for your imput on what makes LOST so great. It is real help to have the "real world" imput, makes everything more interesting.
