Not that I'm considering selling my CRD, but the economics nerd in me like to follow the market.

In Reno where I live there is a 06 Sport with 14k on the odo on a used lot thats asking $24,500.

A search on auto trader shows 14 within a 300mi radius of me. The highest is $29,999 for a limited in Santa Cruz and the lowest is $20988 for a limited in a burb' east of Sacramento.

The last time my CRD was in for service the salesman who sold it to me said that they have effectively not depreciated and I could sell it for what I bought it for.

As CA does not allow the sale of new diesel SUVs or cars but will allow you to register one with >7500 on the odoI suspect there is something of "forbidden fruit" premium in CA and surrounding states. I know people in OR buy get "free" cars buying new VW TDIs and selling them into CA.

What is the used market like in your area?

CRD's are VERY expensive here in Alberta (Canada). I bought my 06' Lease Return last year with 20,000kms (10,000 miles or so) for $22,000 CDN. At the time, if you could find a CRD, it was well over $30,000 CDN. I found one just now with high milage for $28,995 CDN.

I'd almost kill for a CRD.

I bought mine new for 41k or something with taxes. I think it was 32 or so without, the only one in Manitoba and I wanted a diesel. So I snatched it up. I have no idea what I would get for mine with 95,000 kms on her. Probably like 24k, which is sad because I owe more than that, lol.

Nitpick - need to reverse your axis labels on the 05 - unless someone's really asking $68,000 for an 05 with 14,000 miles

I keep thinking I'll do that when I look at vehicles and I never get past Post-it notes with stuff written on both sides.

Ouch, my CRD is only worth $14500. darn, no where near what I owe left on it. Sad sad day............

I wonder what the blue book value is and how they compare to your prices in your spreadsheet, would be interesting.

crap thats not how I wanted them plotted, I wanted them plotted as labeled.

I only just pulled asking prices from cars.com since you can search for diesel easily.

I would think if the market takes off we could sell for what we paid. Biodiesel could be affordable in the future, as to the guy saying his is only worth 14k lol i cant even find a 05 vw for 20k so im sure ours is worth 20 to 24k.

My guess would be that the algorithm does not have enough data points for the CRD model so it defaults to the Gas version. 14,500 is in the ball park for a 3.7 gasser.

Looking at the data it appears that the Limited and Sport trim levels are converging on price.

Carmax just bought my 05 Sport with 36k miles for $16,000

Carmax is selling a 23k miles 05 sport CRD here in Hartford with NO extras for $20,500!!! That's as much as they are asking for the 2 06 Limiteds with 9k and 16k on them that are in FL and CA.

Wassup wid DAT? Do I live in a Diesel-hungry state? We can sell diesels here....weird.

For reference, pure dino diesel has recently been running from $2.85 to $2.99 for retail, and regular unleaded gasoline from $3.19 to $3.39.

Portland seems to be one of the central towns in the biodiesel movement, and any kind of small diesel goes for very high $$ (particularly Volkswagon Passat and Jetta TDI wagons). Liberty CRDs are starting to catch on the same way--someone is advertising locally on Craigslist looking to buy one.

Just curious...since you have been running mostly biodiesel, what kind of mileage are you averaging?

On the highway, I've been averaging 26-27mpg, according to the computer (cruise set at 65). In the city, stop and go mileage has been pretty poor (18-21). Still, better than the V6 4Runner it replaced.

On a 300 mile road trip, while towing a trailer containing a whitewater raft and 5 days worth of gear, plus a canoe strapped to the roof, plus 4 people riding in it, it got an average of 21 mpg.

On fishing trips (country roads, 55 mph tops) I've been getting 24-25.

This is all with 6,000-7,500 miles on the engine.

I'd expect to get maybe 1 or 2 mpg better with B20 than B99. THe local biodiesel gurus say B20 and full dino diesel offer roughly the same MPG... the greater lubricity of the bio makes up for the higher energy content of the pure dino.

My wife and I got really excited on a fishing trip last Saturday when the overhead computer briefly read 31 mpg over about 4 miles on the interstate (cruise set to 68, fresh tank of bio, canoe strapped to the roof, small black dog in backseat). Then we got off the interstate and it dropped down to 25.

I have been averaging 20+ with B20, yesterday I topped it off and it went 24.1, that is all local driving mind you. One note, I cleaned my MAP/IAT sensor last weekend and I think that helped a great deal!!

The stealership said they would give me 14k for mine but in my opion it is priceless. (as long as LOST is here)

I've been running B99 since new (30K miles). My CRD has had F37, the ORM, and a ProVent. Last cleaned the MAP ~15K miles ago. Tires at 36psi.

My wife gets ~22 in heavy traffic. I'm getting 21 towing a 3,500lb, 10ft covered trailer on the highway (65mph). Only highway time the CRD sees is w/ trailer so I don't have any non-towing highway data.

What is the used market like in your area?

I brought my CRD into Cali from Oklahoma October of '05. I always cause a stir at my biodiesel co-op.

Prices are definitely high here - I've been offered what I paid for mine several times.

However, I wonder what will happen when the new batch of 50-state diesels are for sale in the next year or 2? I've been thinking of upgrading to a Grand Cherokee diesel when they're available.
