I have the rear bar removed and have had good experiences towing.

Only issue I ever had was towing a load of 16' deck boards in my 5x8 trailer. over 55mph, it started oscilating all over the place. I think it had more to do with the length of them and hanging 8' over the back than it did with the weight. More or less a giant sale attached to the back of the trailer.

We hauled 2 fridges, a stove, a washer, and a dryer all at the same time in the same trailer with no problem.

I bet you're right Gris that too much weight was beyond the trailer axle, that will make your load go squirely.
