Hey Guys, I got Tokyojoe's pm as well, and I'd really like to make the trip down from Laramie. Just how tough is this trail? We've got all the factory skids, rocker guards, and tow hooks, but we don't want to mess up the new Jeep too badly. We ran Johnny Park a few weeks ago without any trouble, how does this trail compare with that? Anyway, I'll try to convince the wife that this is a good idea :D

Well traildamage.com say's Middle St. Vrain is a 2-4 trail, moderate difficulty(can be made as hard as you want),and Coney Flats is a 5-6 trail that is a little more difficult than MSV but with having at least the factory skids and rails I'd say you'd be fine.I have not run these trails so I could not say forsure tha trail conditions but I'd think you'd be preety okay.We are pretty good at getting stock KJ's up some stuff without damage.

If I remember right, you will need rails and skids. there are a couple tight spots and a boulder field that you should be able to navigate w/o hitting the skids, but in case you miss a rock, I would say skids are a must.

What time do we need to be at the trailhead? Or is there another place close to meet up, I think there is a large parking area at the trailhead (or am I yet again thinking of the wrong trail, I don't think so based on the earlier pics, but it has happened before  )

As for Co Springs guys, we could meet at my place or IHOP on N Academy (if we want breakfast first, it would have to be early though)

Either place is good for me,I'd think IHOP would be better though(hmmmm breakfast),what time.I'm not worried about b-fast unless anybody else wants some before the we hit the road.

We could meet where we did last time. In Boulder, there's a coffee shop. I will see if I can find the location in Boulder.

I found pictures posted from our previous run if you want to see it.

*NOTE* Most of the pictures are from the harder Coney Flats. Awesome water crossing! Middle St Vrain is much easier than Coney.

HERE IS WHERE WE MET LAST TIME. I THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA AGAIN.

This is next to a gas station, Moe's Bagels and King Soopers. Here's a map if you need it.

I'd love to make any trail run, but my tires are slicks after 28K miles, and I still need to get my sliders! Needless to say, I loved the tires while they had tread but my overall review of them went south soon after. I'm getting tires in two weeks and just PMed Marty about the sliders. The rig will be in better condition by July at the latest  8)

Well, did some checking, and MSV/Coney is still closed and the Forest Service doesn't expect them open until after June 16th, maybe closer to the end of the month. I guess the Boulder area trails got hit hard this year and anything over 9000 ft is still covered.

Did a little more research, and a lot of the CO4x4 guys that planned to run MSV/Coney ended up running Bunce School Road and Iron Clads. The trip reports show Bunce School to be clear, and Iron Clads is on the sunny side, so shouldn't be any problems with snow.

I had these on the list of trails to do this year anyways, so what do you all think?

For the COS guys, we should be on the road by 0730 to get to that starbucks before 0900. Mapquest says its 1.5 hours from my house to the Starbucks, so I would say it will actually take us 1.25 hours max. Traffic should be pretty easy that early on Saturday. I'm game for meeting at IHOP. It might be busy in the morning, so if you want to eat, probably be there by 0630.

We should leave my place at 8:15am, so be here at 8:00am.

For the other guys living around Aurora, if you want to meet at my place and go up together, just be at my place at 8:00am. We need to leave at 8:15am sharp.

I live at the Rock Ridge Condos. Corner of Tower Road and Sterling Hills Parkway/Telluride (Electric Power station and Diamond Shamorck gas station are at the corner ). Sterling Hills and Telluride is between Hampden and Iliff on Tower road. Turn into the first turn into the complex. I will have my KJ out in the openfor you to see. You can also check out a wrecked black KJ in the lot also.
