This seems like a really dumb question, but how do you check error codes?

TURN THE KEY OFF AND ON LIKE 5 OR 6 TIMES VERY QUICKLY LIKE OFF ON OFF ON OFF ON....DONT START THE CAR JUST SO IT CLICKS AHEAD ONE TIME THEN LOOK AT YOUR ODOMETER AND IT SHOULD DISPLAY A CODE LIKE P 420 OR P XXX AND THEN IT WILL SAY DONE AND GO BACK TO NORMAL....YOU CANT CLEAR THE CODES THAT WAY THO...JUST CHECKING THEM....

I've printed this out and passed around copies at work and it seems to work for almost all DCX vehicles back to '99 except for '04s, for some reason.

Thanks everyone!

Now that I know my code, here is my situation.

About 1 week or so ago my check engine light came on. It stayed on during two short trips (totaling ~ 1hr of driving), but has not been on since.

I checked today and got code P0481:

P0481 Engine coolant blower motor 2 – circuit malfunction Wiring, engine coolant blower motor, ECM

Should I take it in to get fixed ASAP, is that something I could do myself (I'm handy with tools, but just learning my way around the Jeep/cars), or should I ignore it since the light has gone out?

Umm, I think that's the radiator fan? Should get that fixed, asap!

DC has has the turn your key 3 times for Diagnostic codes since they bought the company in late 80's. My 91 & 92 XJ's had the morse code function of codes. Very useful if you can do things your self. Starting with Diagnostic!
