We just bought a 2005 Liberty Sport and didn't get the factory tow hooks. We will be driving on the beach while on vacation and wanted to put on some hooks. Any suggestions for after market hooks? Any on-line retailers that specialize in Libertys?

I'm also thinking that maybe a local U-Pull place may have a couple junked Libertys, so what tools are required to remove and install? I've got the tools, but don't want to have to carry tools that aren't required.

I can send ya the MOPAR rear one if ya want it. Never used it before putting on my hitch. Still using my front ones for the time being though.. I'd send it to ya for $40, that's including shipping, if ya want it.

The factory hooks are the only ones I know of that will fit the front due to the attachment points. They use a special M shaped bolt.

No one (that I've found) makes aftermarket tow hooks. If you climb under your front bumper, you'll see the difference between what the KJ uses & "generic" tow hooks.

I also found that JParts was the cheapest online for KJ front tow hooks. Unless you have rivet guns (& rivets), among other tools to remove the front bumper cover, IMO the removal process is a pain in the arse.

You might want to consider having Jeep install them. Just be sure to find out if your dealer will install hooks not purchased from them first! You might have to purchase through their parts dept.

Regardless, it would have been worth it to include the hooks at the time of purchase. Best of luck.

Thanks for the input. I crawled under the other day to see how it was installed. I'll look around and see what I come up with. I haven't made it over to the junk yard yet.

You have to watch out, there are two ways to install the hooks. If you have a set for an after market install then you get the M bolts. You can usually install these with the bumper facia inplace.

The factory installed anchors are different though. They have a plate with 2 wings (for getting hold of I guess) and 2 bolts sticking out. These slide into the frame rail from the front of the KJ. To get or install these you would need to remove the facia.

Facia isn't that bad to get off but probably a pain to reinstall. 6 rivets on the top, save these they are reuseable. 2 slide in clips on each side connect the facia to the flares. Need a slim-jim to push these back far enough to remove the facia. This is the part I think would be a real PIA to put back together. Then there are 1 or 2 christmas tree rivets holding the flare/facia/wheel well liner together. To remove these you just snap the heads off. You can pick these up at any auto store.

I haven't looked at the front of an '05 too closely, so I'm not sure how different this would be than an '03. When I put on my tow hooks I didn't take anything off. It just took forever to tighten the bolts since my ratchet only had room for a couple clicks each time I turned it. So it may be possible to do without removing everything first on yours. Try it and if it doesn't work, then pull everything off.

When I installed the Roadmaster towibar mounts, the front tow hooks on my 2005 Renegade had to go. Don't know if they'll fit your model, though. If they will, and if you're interested, they're for sale for $50 plus shipping, whatever that is. About half of new price. They're like new and include the other hardware. Weight is about 4 lbs. each; I'm in CA. Ted

The '05 bumper comes off without removing any of the permanent rivets. I know this because I got in a little fender bender, ruined my bumper cover and actually replaced it myself. Just a few bolts and plastic retainers and the whole deal comes right off.
