Speaking of taking off the roof, I would love to do what was done to that mod'ed 2 door KJ...Removeable hard top! Well, maybe in the far out future, but doing that and tube doors would really give the KJ a new look. O, and don't forget tube fenders! I was looking at that last night and it seems very possible.
Thans Freshmud for starting this, the pics help with visualizing.

Yea, it would look better with the rear doors on and the front's off with tube doors.

I think its cool that you took the time to take those off though.

I'm an officer in Florida and I can't find anything that makes it illegal here. Maybe if your required to go through inspection in Ohio, you could get in trouble. My friend thats an officer up north said he didn't think it would pass inspection in NH. I'm just glad I still live in the southern states that don't require inspection. The only way you could get in trouble in Florida is if your Drivers License requires you to have outside mirrors. What is the difference in no door and riding a motorcycle? I do feel that my rock slider give me a little more side protection than a motorcycle. Just make sure you wear your seat belt!!

I could not find anything that says driving without doors is illegal here in Michigan. However, there is a problem if you drive without your mirrors, unless you position a mirror on a helmet or visor worn by the operator!! LOL.

Quote:
MICHIGAN VEHICLE CODE (EXCERPT)
Act 300 of 1949

257.708 Mirrors.

Sec. 708.

A person shall not drive a motor vehicle on a highway which is so constructed or loaded as to prevent the driver from obtaining a view of the highway to the rear by looking backward from the driver's position, unless the vehicle is equipped with a mirror located so as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway to the rear of the vehicle. In addition all motor vehicles shall be equipped with an outside rearview mirror on the driver's side which shall be positioned to give the driver a rearviewing angle from the driver's side of the vehicle, except a motor vehicle licensed as an historic vehicle if the vehicle was not originally equipped with an outside rearview mirror. Rearview mirrors may be positioned on the helmet or visor worn by the operator of a motorcycle if the helmet is securely attached to the head of the operator. Every commercial vehicle of 1/2 ton capacity or more, operating upon the public highways of this state, shall be equipped with 2 mirrors, 1 on each side, adjusted so that the operator shall have a clear view of the highway behind the commercial vehicle. The outside mirrors shall not be considered to be a part of the vehicle for the purpose of determining the maximum width under section 717.

Did you get a ticket?

I believe most vehicle laws only refer to the requirement of an outside mirror on the drivers side, not to have doors or not. Some states have officers that go off of old laws that prevented anyone from performing any modifications from stock to a vehicle (we have one here in Colorado that targets off modified Jeeps) but most of those laws were repealed as unconstitutional infringement on a person's freedom. But they still write tickets for it. I was pulled over by the officer I mentioned earlier, and he would not believe me that his law was no longer on the books, even when I pulled out my Colorado Revised Statute book and told him to show it to me. I was done toying with him when I finally took my Washington plate off my dash and asked him if my vehicle was registered in Colorado. Then I asked for his badge number and filed a harrassment complaint against him. I got a nice reply back, bu on a Colorado board every now and then he tries it again and everyone chimes in.

Your definitely doing your homework. I'm sure you will be okay with even just a mirror on the drivers side. Or you can do the helmet/visor thing with a mirror attached to it! LOL.

It sounds like a great project that's been needing to get done for a long time.

I say if you're going to do it at all, do all 4
