OME Coils

So the summer is finally here, and I've got the itch to start beating the Jeep again. First on the To Do list is to get new springs for some lift. I looked a bit, and am going to do some OME springs (200 bucks for the whole set, which is very reasonable....i'm still confused as to how Rusty's springs are more expensive) anyway, who has pics of their before/after w/ OME springs. I need to decide whether I should get the Medium Duty or HD. Thanks

I'm comfused. Are you getting just the springs? You will need struts too as well. The oems are too short. The Ome struts are about 124 bucks or so for the front pair and you will need to get longer shocks for the back as well 80 bucks for a pair of OME N132. 160 for the long travels N132L (two inches longer). You gotta get those from allj as well. They are the only ones who have them plus a exteneded bumper kit so you don't blow the long travel shocks up.

I have the rusty's so I am not sure but I think the OME coils are only a 1.5 lift as opposed to rusty's 2.5. You will need to add spacers if you want the full 2.5 or more lift.

If you want to go OME then a frankenlift from ALL J is prolly your best bet.

If you plan on steel bumpers and a winch go with HD. If not stick with mediums.

I tell ya right now you ain't gonna get a coil lift for less than 500 bucks. Maybe used and for a franky its like 800-1000 dollars depending on your options you want.

And once you start lifting the mods just keep on goin.

Oh yeah, If you decide to get rusty's make sure you opt to replace his POS shocks for Rancho's or better the OME N132 which he might still have. If not the long travels from All J.

well I was planning on only the springs. 1.5" is really all I'm looking for (I'm also pretty sure I've got some pretty substantial spring sag going). I'd really need new struts w/ only a 1.5" longer coil? I was really kinda hoping of just doing this bit by bit, w/ the springs first, and whatever else later on as I saw fit.

The only company that I know that does a 1 1/2" OME lift is Rocky Road. Service sucks but her's the link anyway. The lift is $668 bucks. http://www.rocky-road.com/kjome.html

You have to disassemble the front struts to install the coil spring. Might as well replace the strut too. Have this done professionally, unless you have the right tools. Instant death can ensue with un-experienced hands.

CT, I'm going through the same process with my '04 Rene. I hemmed and hawed and went back and forth and eventually ordered MD coils (926 & 947), N132 shocks and NS131 struts from Rocky Road. There are a couple of other suppliers out there (Google will turn them up) all with prices in the $650-$700 range. Everything should be installed by the middle of next week, will let you know the outcome.

So is it possible or not to just go with the springs and the OE struts? Or was I delusional thinking I could have some nice coils boosting me up 1.5" for $200. If its not possible, I guess it'll be the smaller Daystar....

I'd just save your pennies and buy the whole setup instead of the setup in peices. Its accually most cost effective.

I dont think I've heard of anyone running coils with OE struts.

But like they say, prevention is better than cure.

How many miles are on your '04 Liberty? If you have over 50,000, you might as well bite the bullet and upgrade your struts while you're down there. They need to be dismantled to fit the OME coils around them anyway. I put on my Daystar spacer lift at 40K miles as a temporary solution -- i.e., waiting for my annual bonus from work, raise, or winning lottery ticket -- and after 12,000 miles I haven't experienced any suspension problems (other than noisy sway bar bushings, which I replaced for $20). When my oem struts do eventually fail, I plan to replace them with OME 131 struts and OME 926 medium springs, and a clevis lift. For the rear, I plan to keep my oem springs and 2" spacers, unless I break a shock.

yeah, just clicked past 50k. I'd go with the spacers, but i just think that w/ 4 year old coils it might not be as good. The jeep sees only very mild trail action, mostly fire trails (and any mud hole I spot while driving). Therefore, flex is not an issue for me, I'd just like some space beneath my skids. And this is happening this summer, so while I'd love to save for a full coil, I am going slightly upwards ASAP. Thoughts?

i ran Old Man Emu LD coils with front and rear with OEM struts and shocks for a while before i got my rancho's

kj@best has some 926 ome medium duty front springs for sale for 50.00 never used.Check him in the for sale section.

I am running OME med coils front and rear
Rancho struts and ome shocks out back

rides better than stock
the KJ in an '03 with 44K on it we did the lift at 38K cause it needed new shocks/struts
we got 2"+ of lift out of just the coils ,spring sag
we run 245/75 16 mtr's

with this set up our break over is far better than a stock JK unlimited Rubicon
and better approach than a stock FJ and very close to the same as any stock JK
at the front bell ,wich is what counts in the mud, we are way higher than any stock wrangler

I want to say with shipping the hole kit was ~$500
$200 for springs Crustys(rustys offroad)
$100 for shocks same
$180 for struts all J's

as others have said at this point just replace the struts while you are at it

Sounds like a good set up. But a definitive answer as to if it is possible to use OME coils w/ stock struts?

I thought the OME coils were simply a different rate and not a different length--thus no need for longer struts.

I am running OME Heavy Dutys/ Rancho struts/ Rancho rear shocks and yes I bought it in pieces, as I have posted in several posts before Springs from AllJs, and front struts also, rear shocks from Summit Racing. If you have any miles at all replace the struts, you do not need to purchase everything together as some have posted and NO it is not cheaper and also you will get more than 1.5 with the OME at least with the Heavy Dutys, My ride is great on and off the road it has over 79,000 on it, 29000 with the Lift!
as to your question as to running the stock struts with the OMEs yes you can BUT WHY? You would be tearing it back apart to replace them anyways. It seems that a lot of people just want to be lifted anyway they can and never think of the future. If you dont have the bucks now save up a little while and then do it the right way.

I totally understand what you guys are saying about the struts.

But the way I see it, what better way to gain experience than doing things a few times? After all, practice makes perfect right!

Also: tommudd, are you using the HD's simply due to the ARB up front? Might be a bit of overkill for my application.
