Audi's R10 has won the 24 Hour @ Le Mans for the second year in a row. If there were any doubters after last years victory this should shut them up. BTW, the Peugeot diesel took second place. Anyone else see a trend?

Maybe the rest of the world will finally realize that diesel powerplants are superior.

Yes, and Audi put two into the walls/gravel and took them out of the race otherwise they likely would have taken second too.

Maybe, but I just dont see nascar picking this one up any time soon

Now a rally car sure, and I would love to see a diesel Indy car

First Nascar has to grasp the concept of the right turn and then maybe they can work on the diesel concept.

Never say never...when all the 1/4 ton pickups like the F-150, Ram 1500 and GMT1500, Titan and Tundra all offer a 4-5L Diesel I could see NASCAR Truck racing going that route.

Diesel Power did a write up on a Golf Rally Car a while back:

Yeah...NASCAR would be a great place to start racing diesels. Heck, most of the motorhomes and travel trailers at those races are diesel or towed by a Ford/Dodge/Chevy diesel pickup. I would think that the left turn cheering crowd would love to see a diesel race.

It just wouldnt be as exciting for the NASCAR crowd though, especially if they are as quiet as that R10 is.

Yeah...all the quiet engines would allow race fans to hear all the beer farts. :D

It would never be allowed, heaven forbid someone should be able to compete in nascar in something that was superior to everyone else.....

Didn't they make them use smaller fuel tanks to compensate for the greater fuel efficiency this year, thinking that fewer stops made them faster overall?? at least thats what I remember.

I don't follow NASCAR so I couldn't tell you. I do know that it USED to be fun to watch back in the 70's and early 80's when the cars were actually cars you could buy in the showroom. Granted, they were greatly massaged. Now the darn cars are just fiberglass bodies over tube frames. "Stock" cars...yeah right.

They basically set the fuel tank size based upon tire wear safety issues. The new size reduces the chance of overdoing the tire mileage. Same reason they are doing "competition yellows" during the first part of many races.
