Interesting development. I know they make great tractors...selling around $20,000 for the trucks/suv

Is this the same company that makes the flat fender, diesel, copy for the Indian market? I didn't see anything on the US website. Hopefully it will make it over here.

The M&M company did start with the Willys around 1945 or so, so I do think it is likely the same.

Wow. If they get them here for ~ $20K and they're halfway reliable, they may take this niche market from Ford, GM and Chrysler before they even admit it exists. A small affordable, no frills diesel pickup truck - a concept not even on the production table as far as I know from our home market.

If memory serves me correctly, Lasorda at Chrysler is the one who pushes BIG pickup trucks and diesels, like the MegaCab. While there is a market for those, dropping the Gladiator concept for production may soon prove to be a poor decision. If the Indian company is successful, maybe they can play catch-up.

Wow...this pic from the rear looks like Liberty Lights (2002-2007) on a 2008 Liberty:

http://www.gv-usa.com/dealers.php

Global Vehicles is asking dealers for a $125,000 payment to apply for a franchise.

Dealers who have heard Global Vehicles' sales pitch say Mahindra plans to reach the market in October 2008. The venture plans two vehicles, they say: a regular-cab pickup with a 2.6-liter turbodiesel engine and an SUV called the Scorpio. The company already sells farm equipment in the United States.

On another note, I can't wait to see what Jeep or Hummer will do when they see another "7 SLOT GRILL" hit the shores

Kinda reminds me of the 4-door Toyota diesel pickup I rode in over in Japan back in 1994. I was at the NY Auto show about a month after returning from that trip, and asked a Toyota rep why they didn't sell 4 door cab pickups in the US. His reply was that "their market research showed that Americans wouldn't buy a truck like that." Fast forward to 2007, and they are selling those trucks like hotcakes. Now if they can just get with it and start selling more small diesels over here. Even back then, it seemed like every small truck and SUV I saw over there had a diesel. Think about it, wouldn't a diesel FJ Cruiser be nice? The crappy mileage the FJ gas engine gets is one of the main things stopping me from buying one...

I saw the same thing in Iraq in 1990 and was told by a Toyota dealer that Toyota did not make a 4 door truck.

Why don't we (USA) produce a vehicle like this here?
Pretty soon we'll all be working at McDonalds.

I went to the Mahindra site and they have a 4 door flat fender with a diesel. Probably wouldn't meet all of the regs to get it into the US. I wish they would try, I'd love one of those.

A mid-$20k priced diesel SUV with auto tranny...but bigger than the Liberty....hmmmm.
Soccer-moms-yes,
off-roader Libby owners---no. Too much pride.

Why don't they make a diesel mini-van for $20k that gets 35 mpg? That would sell like hot-cakes. No one cares about no-name brands when buying mini-vans..just mileage and how much room is in there.

Trust me, when I was forced to consider a mini-van, there was non pride left....

I had to spring for the minivan....I bought a Honda Odyssey. It's nice. When my friends and I go on trips they want to ride in the van.

Nothing beats playing XBox on the DVD system, plenty of room for the cooler, and comfort for 6 to spread out. The rear passengers even get their own wireless headphones so the driver (me) doesn't have to listen to a move they can't see.

Now...give me that van with a diesel engine and I'd be a happy guy! :)
