I like what you're thinking Moose. I could possibly find my own square tubing and fit it on the rails to that it rests on/ near the pinch if I felt it was necessary. I could even create my own mounting tabs too instead of a long rail.

If anyone has a shot of the rails before they went on, or from underneath the KJ, I would like to see them.

Everyone here has been very helpful. Thank you all.

Sorry it took me so long to find this thread. I've been crazy busy lately!!

Are those pictures links still dead? They work for me. Picts are still where I hosted them from originally.

No. They just seem to move slow.

So, I placed an order with Andy at CRS on April 7 and got the rails June 14. But he gave me a pretty good deal on the set for being patient and not taking my business elsewhere.

They are very stout. Here are some shots of the rails and my stance with some spacers too.

Rails as shipped:

Rails spray painted (1 coat primer, 2 coats black, will need another layer of bedliner or other hard shell):

I expected the boxed steel to end at the edge of the rocker panel, having only the tube extend further. On the plus, it gives a large platform to stand on while accessing the roof. On the minus, it may allow for too much leverage when hung up on a rock. We shall see....

For those of you still interested in a group buy, I think Andy kept his measurements and could more quickly manufacture some more. The price is normally around $325 plus shipping.

Lots of Pros and Cons on sliders. Here is a thread with Skink pictures and links to install instructions that may add to your information. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... 237#213237 Good luck.

i'm a fan of these rails because they don't have a mount/contact with the pinch. i just figure the whole point of the sliders is to avoid a hit on the rocker panel and it seems like the other rails would just distribute the force upwards. this is totally speculation, but i plan on making my own and i'm leaning towards no pinch weld mount. i'm sure there's pros and cons, and would love to know what they are, i just figured this is the safest bet.

The pinch weld is one of the strongest parts of the KJ,the reason is to prevent body damage on the lower rocker panels and doors. If you only mount the rails to the unibody frame rail(which is only a 1/16" thick in most places) you are putting alot of stress on it that it was not designed for, plus the outer rail will become one big lever to more easily bent the unibody. With the rail attached to the pinch weld(3/16"+ along the length) it will distribute the force of a hard landing onto a much stronger and bigger part of the unibody, and also puts less stress on the "legs"(mounts) of the sliders.I've come down real hard on my rails and no damage anywhere but some paint scrapage on the botton of the Skink's.

thanks... i really wasn't sure on that. originally my only concern with fabbing rails without the pinch weld was coming down hard on it and pulling those self tapping bolts right out. i know it'd be hard to do, but if so, then you've got damage to the frame rail and you're still coming down on the pinch, probably doing even more damage since it won't absorb most of the impact, but rather shove it up into the rocker. i wasn't sure how trustworthy that pinch weld was, but then again i see alot of people happy with the skinks and whatnot. thanks again for the input.
