Two years ago a section of the trail was completely washed out and an alternate route was created around the former route. This was in the area of the oro belle mine. I hadn't done the trail before the washout so I can't speak for it but I had heard it was a tough section.
I don't recall a ledge from two years ago when we did the trail (after the washout and reroute). Maybe this was in the former part of the trail that is now gone. I remember someone saying at the time that the major obstacle they had done before was now gone due to the washout. Can't remember what they called the obstacle.
Dan or Travis can you comment on any of this?
One of the members of our group two years ago did the trail with a stock liberty with full skids (Sethx9 where are you?). He took most of the bypasses although there was one obstacle early on that has no bypasses and he did fine. It's all in the spotting and we have some of the best!
I did all the obstacles in my lifted, locked and armored liberty with no bypasses no problem.
Trails change all the time and we haven't done this one for a while, but I don't foresee any problems we can't deal with.
If anyone is uncertain of their vehicle or experience just come up and camp with us friday and saturday on the mountain at Turney Gulch group campground via the regular route.
Look forward to seeing everyone there. Details to follow!

You talking to me? ;) If so, then I moved back to my house in Buckeye in January and have been working on re-kindling my relationship with my fiance so I've been pretty out of touch lately. We did have a child on the way, but unfortunately as events unfolded we are not expecting any longer.

Anyway, I will be making more of an effort to be around (at least on the boards) and stay active with the club.

Ok, I cannot make it... I have been secretly informed by my fiance's mom of super secret squirrel plans to celebrate my b-day (on the 24th) on Sat. It's gonna be this big thing over at her nana's so I cannot disappoint or I will face the wrath for weeks. Sorry, was looking forward to it too. Hopefully the next one.

Hey Guys,

Vern, Angel, and I will be camping Friday Night and Saturday Night changes have been made due to a closure and so the group site isn't avalible.

The new cost is 6 dollars an night.

Click the link below if you plan on attending any of the two nights of camping. so you know what you are getting into :).

http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/prescott/recrea ... llow.shtml

Also because we will be up here and from what I can tell it will take about 3 to 3 1/2 hours for us to get down to the start of the trail does anyone mind if we start the trail around 9:30 - 10:00?

Thanks,
Daniel

Meeting time is 9:00 am Saturday 6/23/07 at the intersection of Highway 74 and Castle Hot Springs road. We will leave the meeting spot not later than 9:30. This is an all day trail, bring lunch, sunscreen, and plenty of water. After the trail the campers will proceed to the camping area for frosty beverages of their choice and those not camping will have to drive back down the mountain to the heat (hint, hint). 8)

Turney Gulch group campground has been closed by the Prescott National Forest due to the high fire danger so the offer of free group camping is cancelled. Individual camping is still available at the nearby Hazlet Hollow campground. Camping fees at Hazlet Hollow will be on your own and are $6 per night. A few of us will be camping Friday and Saturday night and would love to have company so come up and join us.

“Hazlett Hollow is a relatively small, semi-primitive campground in the southern end of the Bradshaw Mountains in the Horsethief Basin Area at an elevation of just under 6,000 feet. Ponderosa pine is the dominant vegetation type in the area. This is an old, but one of the most attractive and well developed campgrounds in the southern Bradshaws. Most of the walls and walks throughout the campground were built of stone during the 1930s by the Civil Conservation Corp (CCC).

This is going to be a great run for vehicles and drivers of all abilities and we are looking forward to seeing everybody on Saturday.

Arrgggghhh, I've got to stop planning on these runs, just show up, say 'Howdy, lets get on the dirt' and go...

Needless to say, work has reared its ugly 'Overtime' head once again. With luck they will cancel at the last minute but I don't think it'll happen. Man I have got to get up this trail one of these days. Anyway, hope you all have fun and post up lots of pictures...

my dag gome skid didnt come in!!!!!, but im runnin the trail anyhow dern it! They did realize my vehicle particulars and spent the past few days "modifying" the thing to fit my CRD w/ out me having to use a hammer/drill/vise ect (or so they say). Hope the bottom of my jeep doesnt get injured (my tranny pan and some oil hoses are in danger on this trip)...... I have no camping gear so im either going to crash in the back of the jeep up in the hills, or just go home sat night er somthing.... just gonna wing it w/ the bare essentials that keep me alive ect....

o8k

P.S. If desert KJ is reading this, you are more than welcome to tag along if you want to go but not drive the trail.

Not to worry, we'll get you through!
I've got an extra sleeping bag you can use, and I'll bring some extra pads to sleep on so plan on joining in for the camping.
I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait!

Is it quicker to go up Grand ave from Thomas/NB I-17 or should I stay down on the 10 and then run up the 303 (coming from east valley)?

Quite a bit. You missed seeing o8k's stock CRD with nerf bars navigate the whole trail... with the nerf bars still on at the end! Although they were heavily customized by then. Seven showed up, so turnout was not bad. It was hot, but cooled down very nicely as we approached the end.

If I remember right: 4 KJ's (2 stock), 1 TJ, 1 FJ, 1XJ.

I rode in the XJ as my KJ is at the doctor getting a new boot and my friend was anxious to drive this time. I pretty much stayed inside the XJ for most of the ride as I rolled my ankle pretty bad. Still hoblling around with a chair-- as I can't walk on it after the ride home. But I think I got the worst of it. One KJ did take some minor damage from trail rash (turn signal light broke and tiny dent on the wheel flare). There should be pictures soon as plenty had cameras.

Thanks to all for a very cool run, and for helping the stocker through the rough parts.

The terrain:

The lineup:

Special thanks to phxtoad for babysitting the stockers, and to o8k for going before me:
Image

The only part where anyone got hung up - me of course, while o8k watches my door from grinding across the rock face and phxtoad spots. This is a hard left turn above a sharp rise, a two point turn after ascending the hill. I got high-centered on the crossmember, and I believe this was the only time tow straps were mentioned on the run. I eventually cleared by doing the cheap locker trick, simultaneous brake and gas.
Image

Trail rash - phxtoad hugs the wall a little too close, and the exposed tree root takes a piece of his turn signal. If you look real hard you can see some amber plastic in the dirt:
Image

oldhockeyvb led the pack. He didn't think this line would work for us non-lifted types:
Image

...so we brought out the RockStacker 2000:
Image

...and proceeded through. First up, the FJ:
Image

...then the XJ:
Image

...then phxtoad:
Image

...then o8k, with me taking notes behind:
Image

...then my turn:
Image

...and our cleanup crew in the TJ:

The obigatory post-run lineup:

Thanks y'all,
Russ & Mary
