I just bought mine used from a Saturn dealership in Port Richie FL.

The decision to buy a CRD was more about economics rather that performance. Don't get me wrong though, I love diesel engines and I used to be an ASE cert diesel tech. But, I loved my '92 F150 (I guess you could say I almost loved it to death). However, I hated the 14 mpg that it got. Cost me $200 a month for fuel. After test driving the CRD I found a new love and I have never looked back. Sure I would like to have a Ford PowerStroke but I just could not afford it. And hey, the CRD actually has good towing capacity! I had to finance the Jeep so I now have a car payment (~$200 a month) but my monthly fuel costs are less that $100 a month. Plus I now have the option of making my own fuel (biodiesel) should I choose to do so, and put all that studing of organic chemistry to some real use.

You and I are in the same boat. I had a Ford Explorer V8 4x4 that got 14mpg. Sold it and bought a PT Cruiser 5-speed figured I'd get better mileage. I did, but only 19-20mpg and I couldn't tow my trailer with it, I had to row a 5-speed in rush hour every day, and it was gutless with no power.

My CRD is bigger, more comfortable, gets better mileage, tows my trailer, is 4 wheel drive, and I can make my own fuel for it if I so choose. I REALLY wanted a diesel pickup, but they are REALLY expensive around here. I looked at a 2003 PowerStroke with 85,000 miles on it and they wanted $28,000!! Anything diesel goes for nutty prices here in Tennessee. I looked at a 2002 Jetta TDI with 90,000 miles on it and they were asking $18,000. I thought my CRD for $19,000 with only 9600 miles was a steal! :)

I hear you guys. My 05 KJ CRD was my first 4wd AND my first diesel. Believe me I was terrfified of the whole diesel thing but one test drive and I was hooked. My previous car was a large sedan with 3.8V6 and 5sp manual (here in Australia its a Holden Commodore, over there you guys probably know it as a 2000 Cadillac Catera) and the KJ, although heavier and an Auto, actually gives me better fuel economy and isn't THAT much slower. I love it. And when I hook up a trailer I barely notice it there.
