I just emailed asking for more info/details but the initial information is below....Is this worth checking out, anything wrong with this particular year or anything?

97 Jeep wrangler
4cyl
98k
5 speed manual transmission
green with black top (hard & soft)
32x12.5in tires
6in lift
4 wheel drive

looking for $5500

Let me know if you think this is worth looking into...thanks

Sounds strange... Why such a big lift for small tires, they should be at least 35's with that kind of lift. I would want to know axles and gears. That price seems a little high because you should be able to find the 4.0L in that year for the same price.

Well hopefully I will get a response soon. I asked the overall condition, type of lift/tires and how it runs in general and if it has been beat on. This is the lowest priced I have seen in a while, I have been looking and havent found anything under $14K. Not sure of what a good year would be either though.

That is a high asking price for sure.

97 was the first year TJ, so no D44 options. It most likely has a D30 in front and a D35 in back with 3.21 gears. Thats just my best guess. Probably has 32s on it becuase the seller is keeping thier 35s or 37s for a new vehicle.

There are a lot of less than desirable things about that Jeep versus the price including the engine setup, the axles, the high mileage and the poor tire size.

I personally wouldn't pay more than 3 grand for it. $5500 is more in line for something with the 4.0L.

You can do better for the money.

BTW I think the D44 came with a towing package option.

Well I think I'm passing on that one, the owner said there is some body damage that would need to be repaired but didnt go too far into detail. Since it's an hour drive one way to see it, I dont think it's worth it.

What would be a good/best year to look at other than new? Ideally I'm looking for a Rubicon but that doesnt seem to be in my range so I have been checking out the Sahara Editions because they come with the 32's stock.

The TJ's never came with 32's stock. The JK's do though. The largest tire on a stock TJ was the Rubicon with the 245/75r16 which actually measures in at 30.5 inches. If you're going to get a TJ that is pretty much stock, make sure it has the 4.0 and a Dana 44 rear axle. If it's been modded, don't think that just because it's modded it should cost more. Check the blue book value for it and go from there.

More mods planned than money.

Sorry, I dont know the TJ/JK reference (which is which) but I thought Saraha's came with 32's? I couldnt be wrong, I looked at so many different types/years I'm getting confused.

Anyway, the hunt continues, hopefully something will come up.

97 to 06 TJ, 2007 JK. The new 07 Sahara has 32s on it but no TJ as Dave said. Hope that helps you a little. :)
